Correct there is no carplay even for the 2020 GS, unless you get an aftermarket kit.
Wow, for some reason I thought it came on the 2019-2020 model years. Well then going with the GROM was even wiser than I initially thought. I don't understand why Lexus would not implement that in the GS when they have done so for other models. Maybe they really are going to scrap the GS...
If anyone is interested in 2015 Lexus GS head unit with 2017 maps PM me. $200 plus shipping.
Selling it without the faceplate I used my original 2013 before.
You can transfer your existing face plate to this one, 4 screws, couple parts to un-clip, and just one ribbon cable connects to the face plate. Not hard at all to swap.
I also relocated the sd card to the bottom of the radio, you would only change it to update the maps.
Nice job peasodos again, man i check online for the display and head unit for the 4GS 16-18 these are hard to find used. I have even checked car-part.com can't find one and ebay no luck. Did you find your display and head unit in the junk yard or online?

Junkyard searching online. They are hard to find and when you do usually overpriced. What I did in car-parts.com was select 2020 as the year and then it gives you an interchange option to select a range of years. This way it actually searches all the years and models of the GS from 2016-2020. I was searching for the amp and any other major part of the car. Then I would ask them if they had the parts I'm looking for. A lot of the time they don't have the whole car broken down so only some parts are listed online.
It took me a couple months to find the parts.
If you have a 2013-2014 GS your backup camera will not work. Mine hasn't been working since I retrofitted the 2015 head unit over a year ago. I don't need it, use mirrors and parking sensors. The system that triggers the screen to switch is different.
If you have a 2015 GS everything is plug and play and your backup camera will work.

Good to know! I have a 14 and I really don't want to lose my back up camera. so jealous though. That full screen looks amazing!
peasodos did the PAC USB-TY1 Toyota/Lexus OEM USB Port Retention Cable work with the 2016 head unit ?
The USB port plug on the back of my 2013 radio is exactly the same as the one on the back of the 2016. the factory plug fits in the slot.
I did use PAC USB-TY1 for a Carplay kit I had that doesn't work for my 2016 because it was programed for 2013-2015 split screen. That way the factory usb in the console connects directly to the carplay kit. I'll probably put that up for sale in the next few weeks.
I do plan in trying a wireless carplay kit made by carlinkit, it only works on 2016+ GS with full screen, not split screen. That way you get in the car turn it on and switch to carplay(holding map button) and everything is loaded, no need to plug your phone in like Beatsonic or the previous kit I had.
Even though the amazon listing says 2014 it doesn't work on the split screen, I know because I gave that product a try before. They also ask you if your screen is split or not, guess they are not familiar with the US cars. I made a thread on it here: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/gs-...l#post10686816

I haven't given up yet on the backup camera. the wireless carplay kit from Carlinkit that I'm going to try again has the ability to add an aftermarket backup camera, with the reverse trigger tapping directly to the reverse lights. It will switchover the screen to the aftermarket backup camera. I'll post updates when I try it.
Here is my aftermarket backup camera, I got an alpine camera that looks similar to factory. Then I got a cheap used GS camera on eBay and cut the camera off, these two pieces will get glued together so it has the same exact dimensions as the factory backup camera and mount in the same exact spot as the factory camera in the trunk.
This is what the factory backup camera looks like for reference:
