Default Toyota oil or bust?

Hey all I’m doing an oil change soon and would like to be schooled on why or why not I should use Toyota oil. I’m used to American v8s which aren’t particularly picky as long as oil is in there. I have always used Mobil 1 synthetic. 2013 gs350 rwd.

If you have always used Mobil 1 Synthetic, then there is no need to change from what you know and like. 0W-20 is what you want to use, and is perfect for your Lexus GS 350...

Last I checked, Toyota is not in the refinery business. So you are paying a premium for rebadged oil made by the lowest bidder.

I was always told once you start with a synthetic oil brand you should never change oil brands. Something to do with how the oil bonds to the metal. I like the Lexus synthetic oil and will keep using it.

I use Mobil 1 in all my cars. Very good oil and if you were using it in the past keep using it now.

I buy Mobil 1 bought at Walmart for $23 for a five gallon jug and than using a Mobil $12 rebate for a net cost of $11. Mobil runs these rebates twice a year in the spring and fall. All done on line upload pic of receipt and takes 60 seconds to do. Toyota synthetic is made by Exxon/Mobil. If you go into a Lexus or Toyota dealership and buy oil you will get the Toyota synthetic. In the shop however my local Service manager said they use drums and not Toyota oil but another brand. He mentioned and sorry can not remember the name but I heard of it but not a major brand like Mobil, Pennzoil, Castro etc..

There is no reason to change your oil...Fake News... :-)

In all seriousness, I dated a girl who drove a Camry. not sure she every changed the oil for 100,000 miles. That thing ran forever...

Use what works Mobil 1 is a very popular choice.
I use Penrite HPR or Castrol Edge, there's no reason to change what works.

The toyota oil is OK, according to the lexus parts department its “the best 0w20 on the market” ( 🙄&#128580 it does thin out quite a bit by the end of my 5k miles interval and it didnt fight fuel dilution that well, it DOES have a high viscosity index, which is good, just dont run long intervals on it.

That's a myth. Maybe back then when Synthetic was fairly new but nowadays they have the same molecular makeup making it universal.

Back to the topic, I really like the Mazda Moly 0w-20. Very low wear and can easily last up to 15,000 miles. Great results from Blackstone labs when I ran it in a few of my vehicles. I believe Idemitsu makes a special blend for Mazda with a higher moly count while their Toyota blend has a lower moly count.
