At My Wit's End - Brake Squeal
#46
Brake squealing is most often due to incorrect shims or incorrect shim installation. Of particular concern is the type of grease used on the shims and on the back side of the pads, and the amount of grease used. The wrong grease will not hold in place when the brakes heat up under normal braking. Insufficient grease will not be able to muff the high frequency vibrations that cause the brake squeal.

I may pull apart the front brakes on my car to slather gobs of grease on the pads and check for which shims are in place.
I believe all work on the car is from the dealer. And yes, I have the low speed squeal which was not there when I bought it under CPO.

Folks I found this(https://www.clublexus.com/forums/gs-...0001-20-a.html) thread here which has some very valuable information.
To sum up my brake/vehicle experience in case others had the same issue/parts:
To sum up my brake/vehicle experience in case others had the same issue/parts:
- Lexus dealer changed my two part rotors to one part rotors in summer of 2018 per a TSB. This service had nothing to do with brake squeal, but a grinding feeling in the brakes and floorboard.
- The parts Lexus changed to were 43512-WY010 and 43516-WY-020 (rotors and pads along with some other accompanying parts). This is when the squealing started a lot.
- Every time I took it to the Lexus dealer a new problem showed up so I stopped taking it to them.
- October 2019 with pervasive squealing, my front rotors and brakes were changed out by my local mechanic. The rotor part (according to mechanic) is 43516-3061 but I can't find that anywhere. The brakes were changed out to Textar brakes.
- Within a week the car continued to squeal like crazy cold or warm. Mechanic changed the Textars to OEM Akebonos ASP1118
- As of this writing the squeal still persists so I am going to follow the info on the thread I mentioned above for the person(s) who have the same pervasive issue.
- Bedding (per a suggestion earlier in this thread) at any point hasn't worked at all.

Be sure to use a high-quality brake grease designed for use on the back of the pads and between the shims. Thin, even coats are preferable to "gobs."

1. Have the Powerstop brakes lived up to what you have expected (noise free, their ability to stop, less dust)?
2. How much would the Powerstop Z23 Evolution Sport Brake Upgrade Kit K6513 cost to install at a certified service shop (ex. brake masters)?
3. Would you recommend Powerstop's newer model (K6513-26)?
