Default At My Wit's End - Brake Squeal

Folks, now I understand why people have been driven to get rid of the car due to this issue. On our 2013 GS350 F-Sport, I recently had my rotors replaced (single part rotors, changed out from problematic OEM two-part rotors). This is the second time I've had the single part rotors. i had brakes changes with the rotors, and they squealed like crazy. Went back to the shop within a week and they swapped those breaks out. In both situations things were good for about a few days then the squeal is constant with breaking. I didn't have this problem when we got the car, but the two part rotors had issues (there's a service bulletin for that) so Lexus swapped them out. I've been to various shops trying to remedy this issue, and may shops here in Los Angeles have heard about this pervasive problem with this particular vehicle. Some have simply added a liquid solution which only worked for about a week or so. Other shops didn't even bother because they've learned that the effort was futile on this vehicle.

Does anyone have any idea how to remedy this problem? I am seriously about ready to trade it in for something else; even if it's not another premium brand (Mazda 6). I read on another post that others have done the same because this was such a big problem.

I may sound like a broken record, but I'll ask the question again - Have you tried bedding in the brakes

Lou, what exactly is that? Also, is this something the shop should be trying inherently or no?

Ahh, OK. Dong a little reading here (https://www.autozone.com/diy/brakes/bedding-brakes). No I haven't done any bedding; not intentionally. On occasion when I have enough road (in LA city traffic) I have done what is says on this site not knowing it was called bedding. I just did it thinking it would help wear in the brakes a little more. The brakes currently in question are about 3 weeks old, but this issue has been pervasive with new and older brakes with a lot of wear on them.

^^^^As you probably have read it involves transferring pad material to the rotor. This transference only happens when the brakes are hot, not from repeated use. I have read many posts on this forum with members who are experiencing squealing brakes, I always suggest bedding them in. Few do, some end up selling their cars

Since the advent of disc brakes and Hi-Po pads, I have always used Hi-Po pads which are prone to dust and noise. The current pads on my LC are actually pretty good IMHO. But, some LC owners don't llike them, because of squealing Lexus has a TSB to install lesser performing pads.

With proper bedding I have never experienced this issue. Sometimes in the morning on a cold start when backing out of the garage I get a slight squeak, but that's it.

Proper bedding in does work

Here is the 4 step plan that will resolve your issue 100%.

1) Ditch all the aftermarket rotors and pads if you have them.
2) Use only OEM One Piece Rotor.
3) Install New OEM Shims.
4) Install New OEM Pads and Grease the contact points to the caliper.

That looks like what a Lexus dealership's service center would do...

I had stock rotors and pads on my 15. When I asked the dealership to address the squealing, they did steps 3 and 4 but it didn’t work. Every day I am expecting my 19 to start...

We also have members who had issues with aftermarket pads go back to stock and that resolved their issue.

Is your brake pad shim set complete all around?
Both metal and composite shims on all brake pads?

My Lexus dealer told me on my first service that there were missing shims. The shop that sold the car to me after leasing had changed the brakes and lost the rear shims in the process

Indeed. It’s just not guaranteed that those steps or OEM pads will cure it.

Many people on here switched from OEM to aftermarket in search of a fix for the OEM squeal.
