Default Brake and rotor replacement 2013 awd

Base model. Is it necessary to open the brake reservoir cap when recessing the calipers during the brake job? This is something I've done on my other cars, but for each video I've watched on this car it hasn't been done. Is it necessary?

No need, BUT if your reservoir is nearly full and you are replacing very worn pads, you may need to open the reservoir and remove fluid as you go to prevent it overflowing.

Overflowing is no fun because it gets everywhere, and brake fluid eats paint.

Did my 2013 rear rotors two weeks ago. Car spent its first four winters doing hiway miles in Minnesota, which was hard on the rotors.
Thank goodness for those bolt holes, could not have done this without them.
