Default Lexus GS Production To End in August 2020

It's now official, as I had no reason to lie nor did anyone else who heard these unfortunate rumors we didn't care to know about or believe.

Toyota Jidosha Kabushiki Kaisha Global

LEXUS will end production of the Grand Touring Sedan GS in August 2020. Along with this, the GS special edition "Eternal Touring" will be set and released on June 1 through Lexus stores nationwide.

The GS has been well-received as a grand touring sedan that combines the enjoyment of driving with a high-quality riding comfort for four generations since the first model was released in 1993. In Japan, with the opening of LEXUS in 2005, sales started from the third generation. The current model, which underwent a full model change in 2012, adopted the spindle grille, which is the design icon of today's LEXUS, for the first time, and pursued the joy of driving the car at will. Driving over 1 million km on the Nürburgring and other roads around the world, we have achieved thoroughly trained driving performance. This model aims to provide new value not only in driving performance, but also in areas of dynamic / static sensibility that cannot be measured by specifications.

Lexus International President Tsuneharu Sato

“The 4th generation GS was born under the strong desire of master driver Akio Toyoda to“ create the driving of LEXUS that we really enjoy and deliver to our customers ”. Therefore, as a model that opens up a new chapter of LEXUS, it also contributed greatly to the revolution in car making. The name "Eternal Touring" of the special-purpose car, thanks to the patronage of customers for 27 years globally, continues to inherit the commitment to grand touring that LEXUS has created so far even after the production of GS was discontinued. It is a thought that we will continue. LEXUS will continue to aim for continuous evolution in order to continue to provide the fun and joy that cars bring. ]

The "Eternal Touring", a special model car, is based on the GS450h / 350 / 300h / 300 "F SPORT" and has adopted a number of items that have been inherited from the "F", which is the symbol of LEXUS driving. The exterior features a black color scheme on the spindle grille, aluminum wheels, door mirrors, rear spoiler, and orange brake calipers on the GS450h and GS350 2WD "Eternal Touring." The interior is Alcantara popular in the GS F ® In addition to adopting the epidermis and carbon ornament panel, door trim and the meter, such as performing a red stitch shine in interior color of black on the hood, further door trim and some also of flare red skin of the steering By arranging the, the quality and sportiness are emphasized.

We've known this was coming for quite some time but it still hurts to see it confirmed in writing.

I really hope they come back with a new updated refreshed model. IMO Lexus needs a sports sedan. After my GS I don't know what I'll end up getting
I can't go back to FWD. RWD or AWD for me.

And still no engine performance enhancements. Give us 400HP GS350 as a final good bye!

Are they still making the V8 GSF though? Or is that one killed too?

LexFather/1SICKLEX mentioned that production ends in June for the GSF. With the outbreak going on who knows how much production was lost already?

Everyone I posted this elsewhere, regarding the history of GS. When I have time, I will post the same videos and photos here. dating back to possibly 1992 pre-release press photography.

This really sucks, I guess when my GS350 lease is up I'll lease or finance a CPO GSF....

Supposedly the IS is getting a bit bigger although with the next edition is not quite as big as the current GS. My hunch is that they're working to move the IS up in the model line up and then they'll bring in a new entry model. It's the old GM saying...":if you can't sell more cars, sell more car." It may take two generations so you'd have to make plans for sure.

I do keep holding out hope that maybe this is break in the model and there will be a major announcement after a gap year or two but with gas getting as cheap as it is I think SUVs will only gain in popularity....that is if any of us have jobs to pay for these things and are allowed to actually drive somewhere....

Not to start any rumor or speculation, but who's to say that might not happen? The current model ends for a year or two and comes back, maybe wishful thinking.

Thank God. Toyota has finally came to their senses and ended the misery. The speculation is finally over, I will celebrate tonight and pour one for the homie tonight. Cue the funeral music too while we are at it...

I knew something was up with the changes to the new ES and the GS pretty much staying the same for so long.

From what I know via Lexus and Toyota personnel, nothing like this is happening in the near future and I previously have mentioned this. Nothing on this level until at least mid-decade.

My only interest has been to keep people informed (whether or not they listen).
