Default How to get water spots off rims??

I have a 2013 GS AWD Lux and I have light colored spots on a couple rims. I used a buffer on a spot with Mother’s Mag and Aluminum Rim polish and the test spot was worse. It almost turned white on the small test spot. How can I get these rims looking shiny and wet? I’m looking for the factory grey color and shine but these white spots are killing my presentation.

Thanks in advance...

You might be experiencing clear coat failure. Those spots may not be "on" the rim's surface, but rather spots that are no longer covered with clear coat. The reason it got worse with the polish is probably because some additional clearcoat was removed.

This makes sense. I will have them redone. Thanks a lot!

Yeah that's definitely not water spots. After u get ur rims done, be sure apply wax every time u wash it.

They need to be refinished. Unfortunately you used an abrasive metal polish on clear coat which made the situation worse. When caring for painted wheels, use the same compound and polish products and methods as you would on your vehicle's paint.

Yes and some wheel cleaners are really harsh, they can even discolor the brake calipers permanently. I use the same stuff as my paint now and it's been fine and less headache too.

I originally did not know these were actually painted. Luckily, it’s super cheap to refinish them in my area and they have no curb rash at all. I’ll have the two faded rims redone once I remove them and install my 20’s.

Yea that would be pretty time consuming over time, i would just ceramic coat them once they're back from the refinishing shop and cured.

I did 2 coats of Tacsystem Magic wheel coating on my summer wheels.
