Default AWD Axle Tire Wear Question:

Do the front or rear tires wear faster on the AWD version? I have 2 tires that have less than 10,000 miles on them, the other 2 have about 30,000 miles on them. I will be replacing the tires that have 30,000 miles on them with brand new ones, and want to know on which axle to mount them?

Having owned two other AWD vehicles, my experience has been that the fronts wear a bit faster than the rears. I've never had to change only one axle at a time...always all 4 at the same time, but then I'm pretty fanatic about rotating. Thus, my suggestion would be to mount the new ones on the front, and put the ones with 10k on them on the rear. My thinking is that would even out the wear on the full set, though I have no real scientific basis for that decision. Just my two cents....

I would always put the best tires on the front. 100% steering, 90% braking and 30-50% of power are on the front.
