So today since I had nothing better to do, I decided to compare the OEM brake pads that came with my 2016 GS 350 to the newer (04465-30510) OEM brake pads. Just by looking at them both, there is no difference besides the numbering on the back been on different ends of the pads, may be the friction material has been changed or updated, I cant tell.
The newer shims are a tad bit different though. The outer shims are painted black on both sides, unlike the old outer ones that are painted only on the side that goes toward the piston. Other than that, they are identical as well.
I was going to replace the pads and the shims because I have about 42,500 miles on mine and the pads developed the squeak in cold, but then I noticed the life left on the pads and decided to just put a thin layer of CDC Brake Quiet between the shims and put them back without changing them. I am pretty sure I can squeeze out another 10,000 miles out of them, so about another year.
Attached are the pictures of the older and the new pads and the shims. Seems like you can reuse the shims, but I will be replacing them when time comes. The total cost for the pads and the shims was 80 bucks shipped from Bell Lexus in North Scottsdale. New ones on the left in front of the box, old ones on the right. New pad from the back. Old pad from the back. Old pad from the side.
