Default New 20" Wheels

I bought new Velgan VMB5 20" wheels about 4 months ago and got curb rash on one of the rears the same day I put them on. I'm looking for advice on the best way to deal with the scratches. I sold the GS 350 F Sport last month, but I still want to take care of the rash while I figure out what to do next (thinking about a GS F but even if I get it, the fitment is way off). Anyway, you can barely see the rub when you step back a few feet (see pic of wheel on the car below).

I called Velgan (maker of the wheels), and they said the wheels are powder coated not painted. I also paid to have the wheels ceramic coated, so I really do not want to have the nearly perfect surfaces recoated or repainted. If there were some way to do a spot repair, that would be great because the car stayed in my garage (working from home last few months), so the wheels and Michelin Pilot Sports have maybe 30 miles on them.

Any advice would be welcomed.

The exact match touch-up paint would hide that easily

I have the exact same wheels and had the exact same issue. Velgen sells a touch up paint kit for $20 that should hide that very easily

Damn I feel for you brother! Same exact thing happened to me when I let the wifey take the car out for groceries. I think i need more than touch up paint for mine.. Same Velgen wheels as well.

Are you lowered?

Davian112,

We are running the same combo. The 275/30/20 has some poke on 20x10.5 wheels, so there is not much tire sidewall protection against curbs (or car washes in my case). Not blaming anyone because I chose the combo. I decided on that size because I had an AWD and the front-to-rear variance in rolling circumference makes a difference. I my case I was running 235/35/20 on the front 20x9 and 275/30/20 on the rear 20x10.5. The circumference between the two tire sizes is well within max the variance, so I never got any check engine lights.

Hi,

Yes, the car was lowered. I ran RSR Downs with a 25mm drop up front and a 30mm drop out back.

A wheel shop should be able to repair that for a price.

Research the tire and rim repair company first. Either it's Yelp or somewhere else.

I found don't hire the mobile guy, he did mine other vehicle and did a so and so job.

hey Rob, what offset are you running with those wheels? Would there be enough clearance to run a 9.5 wide without any protrusion of the guards?

gdog5149,

I just received the touch up paint from Velgen. They were nice enough to send it out free of charge. Once I apply it, I will post some afters to match the befores I posted above. Thanks to you and mfaheem for the tip about the touch up paint!

No worries sir, I have been dealing with scuffed wheels since the early 90's. I normally sand the area down until smooth and paint myself. Amazing what you can do once you try a DIY fix....
Cheers
