Owning a GS and the job you have.
#17
It is very similar, reading your stories.
I bought my 13 AWD GS 350 a little over 2.5 years ago when it was 5 years old with 51K miles. I was still working as Sr Network Engineer for a major apparel manufacturer. As a 30+ year employee, I had a dedicated parking spot in front of the building. I bought it outright with no loan. I owe for nothing except for my monthly credit card bills, paid in full each month. My house and all cars are paid off.
People immediately noticed when I went from my usual 99 Tahoe, 99 Civic, 01 BMW R1100R or one of my old Buicks. I got comments like, "Damn! Bonus time?" and "Must be nice" even though I sold the BMW bike, the Tahoe and the Civic. One of my fellow IT Network guys at work bought the Civic for his daughter so he knew I about what I make. He should talk, he had a house with a pool and a bass boat. We all laughed about it.
Even though several folks were driving much newer RX350s, GXwhatevers and several Mercedes populated our lot, my "old" Lexus raised eyebrows.
Now, I'm unemployed due to IT outsourcing to India. They paid me a generous retention bonus for sticking around to the end and are still paying me severance until December with health and dental insurance. I was aiming to retire early and they have made it possible at 57 instead of 67.

I must be the token tradesman of the group. I did get comments from the guys at work - turning up in a $60K bogan dual cab ute would have garnered less attention.
What they don't understand is that I was choosing between a Mazda 6 and the GS. As others said above, my GS cost less than a new Toyota Corolla - the original purchaser only took the first $73K AUD depreciation on the chin!
My car doesn't 'fit' in the parking lot bit I don't care....I don't understand why men need to drive around with a tray behind them...

The Lexus brand was my very first car, the 2015 GS 350 F-Sport Crafted Line with 9k miles. Got it when I was 28, same as peasodos. My entire life before that I used public transit, trains and buses. I wanted to get a quality vehicle (i.e., any Japanese car) but wanted to splurge a little... so I went with a Lexus. Now I have a 2017 RX 350 F-Sport. No regrets. People will always judge you no matter what you say or do, so don't mind it. Enjoy life and be nice to others.

I like that the GS blends in better at work as I had muscle cars prior. I wanted something more professional for a white collar job bit didnt want the typical $800 / month lease that my coworkers take out on their German cars. My 20K GS blends in well as I keep it brand new and it gives much better satisfaction buying and owning outright than paying ridiculous money on a lease. No one really sees the car at work anyways since I scored the top parking spot.

Have owned all types of cars from big block 66 Chevelle’s to 911’s. I’m a car guy though and through. As a Regional Manager I drive about 25/30k a year. My last car, a Audi A6 3.0T, hit 140k and was about to get expensive as German cars of that mileage typically do. My wife’s last 2 cars were ES’s and have been great cars. With the mileage I drive I wanted to be practical on this purchase but also still have a car that I enjoy. After lots and lots of searching it came down to the 450H or a Tesla. As we all know these unicorn 450H’s are rare, so when one popped up I decided to take a look at it. The deal was just too good to pass up so I jumped on it. Most of the people I work with me know I’m a car guy so it’s not surprising that I drive a nice car, what would probably the most surprising aspect is what these cost. Absolute steals imo.

I bought my Saab 9000 Aero used and I drove it for twenty years. This Spring I bought a 2013 GS350 because I want cheap luxury. I want to drive this car as long as I drove my Saab, and I hope it will be as reliable as the earlier GS generations.
I am a technician in a pharmaceutical factory. Or I was until recently, because I retired early due to a combination of Covid and a respiratory injury. A couple of other techs on my shift drive Lexus cars to work, and there's a BMW Z4, a souped-up Mustang, a 1970s Fiat Spyder, and a 1970s GMC truck. My Lexus didn't really stand out, although there are only about 40 cars in the parking lot. When I bought it, no one cared.

People think my retail job pays so well because I drive a '15 4gs350 f sport with under 40k miles. It's not about how much you make, mostly, just about how you spend your money. Don't live outside your means, just be comfortable and smart. Understand that things take time, but little by little, you can make it happen. Being rich helps though.

I own a business that is about 50 miles of mountain roads each way that i drive 1 or 2 times a week. Started with a Miata then to the Z4 then to an ES. Didn't realize how the front wheel drive was going to change the joy of the ride- kept it a year and traded for the '17 GS lux. So much fun to manual shift and keep those RPM's in the 4-5K range; she handles like on rails for such a big car. I think i enjoy the drive more in this car than even the Miata...... well, almost...

I had tried the CPO route but I had a not so good experience.
So I have purchased this new 2020 Lexus GS 350 F Sport this June and I have around 805 miles at the moment. Given the nice discount from MSRP, and the awesome 0% financing, I decided to get one without the headaches.
IMO, It's not how much you money make or save, one needs to step out and enjoy life also. Work hard, play hard and enjoy.
I work in the Tech industry as a Sr IT Systems Engineer.
Lots of my co-workers have vehicles either Tesla, Lexus, BMW, Honda, Ford so it wasn't an issue with workers.

IT Senior Admin and I just turned 38.
My boss recently bought a brand new 70k truck and a brand new 40k Crossover (yes at the same time) and had the ***** to tell me buying my 2015 GS means he pays me too much. I pointed out his recent purchases and said obviously I'm not getting paid enough.
