Default Rear Dash Cam

Happy Friday everyone!
Has anyone spliced into the back-up camera and used it as a rear facing dash cam (is that possible)?
Otherwise, where have you mounted your rear facing dash cam? The retractable sun screen seems to make mounting a rear dash cam at the rear window a challenge.

I have a Blackview 900s and the rear camera I have mounted at the top middle of the rear windshield. The rear sunshade, has just enough room to clear the camera, as if someone from Lexus thought about this when they designed it.

Thanks for the reply, that’s good to know.

I have the Thinkware u1000 front and rear camera setup, and like peasodos said, there is just enough room to clear the rear sunshade.

Same camera here, same experience. It just clears it.

The BlackVue DR750S-2CH rear camera clears it as well.

I've been wondering on the same thing, thinking of getting BlackVue DR750X when it comes out. Good to know it'll clear the rear sunshade

I use a StreetGuardian SGZC12RC [now discontinued], and it fits nicely under the motorized rear sunshade.
This is a "special compact remote lens and sensor design", such that only the compact lens and sensor is fitted to the windscreen.
The the large bulky DVR box housing the capacitive touchscreen, the CPU and micro SD card is hidden away in the glovebox, to make for a more compact, stealthy and covert attachment to the windscreens, while the DVR box is hidden in the glovebox to prevent solar heat damage.

The new StreetGuardian SG9663DC, DC Pro, and DC Pro+, especially the former two with a very compact wedge shaped rear camera, should fit nicely under your rear motorized sunshade.
The DC is a conventional dashcam design with the DVR unit attached to the windscreen, hence the main unit is a little large, and like all conventional dashcams - absorbs solar heat damage.

On my rear door windows, I use the StreetGuardian SG9663DR, which is a "compact dual remote lens and sensor unit type design only" fitted to my rear vent panes below for a quad cam set up - to catch people who are negligent when opening their doors.
The rear vent pane sunshade can actually close over the remote lens sensor dashcam; albeit awkwardly.

Once again, the actual large bulky DVR unit containing the CPU and micro SD card is fitted inside the glove box like in the photo below.

Thanks for sharing, I've been meaning to do something like this for my side cameras.

Here are some photos of my dual camera install from a year or so ago. I've since upgraded to the 4k versions but same design and never had a single issue and looks great. The best part once you get the 5v power cables run and installed they are universal and regardless of brand or camera type it will be plug and play for power and never have to mess with it again. The rear shade doesn't get in the way, plenty of clearance.
