Default How to adjust headlight height on a 2016 GS?

One of the things that I'm super picky/sensitive to on my cars is the height and beam pattern of my headlights. Ever since I bought my 2016 GS about 3 months ago I've noticed that the headlight height is not even between the left and right headlight and, to me, it is quite noticeable out on the road at night. I consulted the owners manual and it said there are two screws per side under the hood you can turn with a large Phillips head screwdriver to adjust the pattern. As I've always done, I (with the help of my other half) pulled the front bumper as close as possible to the wall perpendicular with the ground and marked with red tape the height of the beam pattern. At that distance, they of course were perfect even. Next, I pulled the car back exactly 25 front from that wall and, as you can see, the left headlight is an inch or two low and the right headlights is probably close to 10" low at that distance; adjusted correctly they are supposed to be exactly where they were as close to the wall as possible. Once I raised the hood I couldn't clearly see where the screws were to adjust the height. I hope I don't have to take some of the plastic cladding that meets where the hood closes off to find it. If someone knows where those spots are at and could clearly explain/illustrate it, I would be very appreciative.

To show how the right headlight is significantly lower than the left I took some pics and marked with the Markup app where the left and right headlights should "stair step" upwards to be dead even in height.

Update: I went out to the parking garage with a flashlight and could not easily see those screws under the cladding that were shown in this video. I'm taking my car in for it's 40K service in 10 days so I'll ask that the tech can show me exactly where they are.

Hi cammyfive, just a FYI for the future - if you do a search for the terms "headlight adjustment" within this 4GS subsection of ClubLexus, you should find a number of topics that address your concerns. There is a large wealth of knowledge on these forums, so I always encourage folks to search for things as more than likely, people have already discussed it since 2011 (9 years ago when people started talking about the upcoming 4GS here!).

Here are two direct posts (with pictures) that will help you:

Just incase you want to tackle this super easy adjustment yourself before your 40K service.

All the best,

Thanks! I'll give it another try today. I think the main issue was I just couldn't see very well and the screwdriver I had wasn't very long. I'll report back.

If you remove the plastic covers over the headlight, it makes the job of adjusting it a lot easier. To remove the gromets it's easy, just push the top part in, and pull it out.

Just to circle back and update my little project here. I made it a point to get a longer screwdriver for this project and after removing the cladding at the edge of the hood, it was very easy. Now, there are perfectly even after some measurements and careful adjusting. Thanks for the help, folks!
