How common was the “Flaxen” leather option in the GS?
Hey all-
I’ve been wondering for a bit, my GS (2013 w/Luxury package) has the Flaxen color leather. I see it more often in Toyotas lately, but very few of the Lexus offerings. Was this an especially rare option? I’m planning to sell and buy newer, but wanted to keep the color combo.
Any thoughts?

I wouldn't say it was super rare, but definitely not as common as black, cabernet, or red, but more common than chateau, light gray, or noble brown. Just judging off of what I've seen around, anyway.

I think the Flaxen interior looks good with almost any exterior color. It wasn't rare but it seems to be middle of the pack as fellow member @JDR76 mentioned. If you sell, i'm sure you'll find another GS with a Flaxen interior.
Not many 2016+ GS's were sold in general so its much harder to find the color compared to 2013-2015 models.
Below is a nationwide cars.com search for 2013-2020 GS's showing the listed colors to give you an idea:
The number listed as "Beige" went down to only 87 total when I changed the year criteria to 2016-2020:

I specifically wanted a non-F sport 2016 white with flaxen interior AWD when I was looking in Jan/Feb 2020. Maybe it was just new england but I had my choice of about a half-dozen all nearly identical GS’s within the Boston area. I picked the nicest one.
I love my flaxen interior and it gets a ton of compliments as looking and feeling very classy/high end/luxurious, but had I been able to find a luxury package with that dark brown leather I would’ve preferred that.

I have flaxan and it's a mix bag of reaction to the color; most don't notice while others have complimented. I wanted a brown/saddle interior so flaxan was the closest color choice.

It’s too bad I can’t get a 3-row Lexus SUV with my GS seats (or the color). I’m stuck at the crossroads - it pushes me towards the Highlander for the leather color I want. Not QUITE as comfortable, either, but I’m rapidly approaching the passenger/cargo limit of the sedans. 😆

Personally I'm not a flaxen or red person - I'm just not a fan of brown or tan leather in general usually - for shoes, belts, etc.... I can certainly appreciate it and I do agree that Flaxen has a very sophisticated look to it especially with certain exterior colors. The first GS I found locally when I was looking was a beautiful low mileage 2013 Lux that was black with a flaxen interior and every option available. Very beautiful car, I was just concerned I'd get tired of the Flaxen and then I found out from folks on here what it's like to take care of a black car and that took that one off the list.
With red I can appreciate the sportiness of it, I guess I just haven't had my boy racer days...I just like driving fast Cabernet was a red I thought I could live with and was nice. Rioja has a bit too much blue in it for me. If I was doing a sporty coupe I could see myself maybe getting red. For day to day - no.
That said, sometimes colors will surprise you. When I was looking for my Infiniti I really wanted a sort of medium gray color interior they had. I didn't like the beige and I was worried the black would show too much dust. That medium gray turned out to be one of the hardest colors to find so I finally ended up with the black. It wasn't as bad as I expected with dust, then again, I don't live in the southwest any more so maybe that would have changed things.
For the GS I settled on Black or Chateau Leather. Since I ended up going F Sport, that left only Black.
From when I was looking I would say Brown was certainly the rarest color. Chateau was probably the second rarest. Black, Rioja, and Flaxen all seemed pretty equal but it certainly seemed to go in waves. Flaxen might have been a little less common, but I was looking at F Sports and Lux so that would account for part of that. I know I saw a lot of Flaxen non-F Sports.
As AJLex19 pointed out - the GS didn't sell in very high volume so in general there are fewer of them around. 2015 was the 4th gens peak at 23,117. 2016 dropped down to 14,878. 2018 there were only 6,604 sold. To put that in perspective - the ES will often sell 6000-8000 units in the month of August alone (generally it's peak month). Some years the ES has sold an average of 6000 units each month July, Aug, Sept (18,000). The GS is a pretty rare, special thing. The ES (and probably RX more recently) are the bread and butter that pays the Lexus bills and lets something like the GS happen.
I would say that whatever you're looking for will immediately become the hardest to find. That's just how it works. I'd say be patient and you'll find it.
And worst case - peasodos probably has write up showing you how to change out an entire interior if you really need to.

I wanted flaxen because I figured that black leather would be too hot in the summer. But I'm almost 60, so I could be accused of thinking like a grandpa. I have black leather for my motorcycle gear, and it's hot.
