Good call on the fuel pressure sensor. I had replaced mine recently as well. It seems as though for this engine it is one of the first components to go that gives a somewhat difficult diagnosis.

Yeah it's a very odd part to go out. If anyone in Canada needs this fuel sensor and can't get one I have an extra new oem one laying around and don't mind selling it.

Well, here we go with my 2013 AWD F-sport, 119K miles -- hope Saadq12 doesn't mind me necroposting!

Backstory: returned to US earlier this month after deployment. Car 'ran when parked,' but had been throwing some codes (e.g. P0091 I remember) for fuel pressure issues. Four months into my absence, car's battery went dead, housemate and neighbors kindly replaced battery, but then the car would crank, no start. Sometimes start for half a second, then die again. At the time, I think it might be the immobilizer. Car then sits for another six months.

I come home, try to start it, same thing - engine sputters once then dies, and won't start after that: fan running, engine oil light on, will no longer respond to code reader:

I then charge up the battery fully, and the car chooses to start -- I think I'm good. I drive it around the block to get the rust off the rotors, but now there's a loud tapping noise on the passenger side, maybe the fuel pump, like here: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/gs-...r-is-bad.html:

https://youtube.com/watch?v=gGnBWEVpK8c?feature=shared

I park the car. Next morning, we're back to sputter and die, and that was several weeks ago. Have tried to start several times since, same result.

SO, I search this forum and find this and a couple other great threads that suggest a bad fuel pressure sensor (like https://www.clublexus.com/forums/gs-...-fan-runs.html, https://www.clublexus.com/forums/gs-...nector-is.html, https://www.clublexus.com/forums/is-...-is-250-a.html, https://www.clublexus.com/forums/is-...ml#post9759981, and also https://reddit.com/r/Lexus/s/qSAbsX72s8) .

I order the $20 89458-30010 fuel pressure sensor from Amazon, which is for the 2007-2011 GS350 previous gen, vice the $258.83 89458-30020 fuel pressure sensor for the 2013-2019.

SO, plan for this afternoon is to get to the FPS, unplug it first and see if car starts, and if yes, then replace it. While in there, clean throttle body and replace plugs w/ Autolite Iridium. If that's not it, it's getting towed to the dealer. Thanks all for your thoughts...

The tapping could be the Vacuum pump Toy/Lex problem. The other problems. Let us know what you find after the FP sensor replacement.

Also FYI: I would Not use Autolite Iridium. NGK or Denso OEM.

Please update on removal and installation on this part with pictures if you could. Seems to be going out around the 120k mark on some of these vehicles. I know you probably have to remove the intake, but knowing where the wiring goes and how it screws in would be helpful.

I’ve noticed a couple times I’m at a light or whatever, and the thing feels like it’s going to cut out for a minute and then goes back to normal. No codes. Also acceleration is deteriorating. Wouldn’t be surprised if it’s the fuel pressure sensor starting to go, as everything else has been well taken care of (new 02 sensors all across, coils, plugs etc).

Do you mean the high pressure fuel pump? Unless you have the gs200t these things don’t have a turbo, therefor no vacuum pump

Talking

WELL, IT WORKED PERFECTLY, with one weird thing* -- thanks CL!! Started right up, ECU talking again, no codes (yet). The factory part was 89458-30011 (for 2007-2011), not the newer 89458-30020, must have still been using the old part in November 2012.

Quick job, used 15/32 combo wrench to remove old FPS, photo dump below. Cleaned throttle body while in there. Comments/suggestions welcome.

*One weird thing -- with engine off, there was what sounded like a cheap beeping alarm clock from the front of the engine, very faint, eventually went away:

You the man. Nice job with pics. Looks straight forward. Any improvements in acceleration or smoothness?

See post # 22 here.

Autolites suck for Japanese cars. You will be back in there again changing them out soon. , get Denso or NGK,

Glad this post helped and you got it fixed! It’s a fairy easy diy and beats paying Lexus thousands to replace the whole fuel rail. Just make sure to replace the crush washer and not to over tighten it.

I’m still running the after market sensor two years later and the GS has been driving like normal since. I keep a new sensor and all the tools required to change it in my trunk just in case goes again

Yea seen tons of all model Lexus owners go to incompetent Indy shops who tell them they need all new Injector and fuel rail. Then they pay big $$$$ for it, only to still have the same exact problem after they replace them.
