Default OUCH! 2013 GS450H headlight replacement

I've owned my 2013 GS450H for almost 5 years, I love it. Yesterday, the nighttime passenger headlight goes out. No problem, go to the dealer to get it replaced.

I am told that the LED headlight assembly is one complete piece, I can't just replace the bulb. Part #81110-30G80. Total cost with installation and tax $5K CDN!

For one friggin light!

The technician was apologetic, said that Lexus experimented with this for a couple of years because they're not supposed to fail. Well it did.

Any suggestions on options? Would it be cheaper to replace replace both sides with different (maybe HID) lights? It's a standard, non F Sport vehicle.

Many thanks!

450h has those triple beams headlights right? If one light goes out, u need to replace the whole housing? Damn! Can buy a used GS for that price.

Ouch. I'd consider going through insurance for this one.

I did the retrofit and bought two used ones in good condition for about $2000.
Don't buy it new because it will be obvious which one is new based on the condition of the lens. Mine were in good condition so I just put ppf over it.

If you change the headlights to HID you will have to change the AFS ecu, otherwise you will end up with an error on the dash. Your best option is to buy a used LED headlight on eBay or car-part.com

. How much of a concern is that? Thanks very much for the suggestions of using car-part.com. My only concern, of course, is buying a used electrical part

Well I bought my led headlights are from cars that were in accidents and zero issues for the last 3 years.

Any used headlight is going to come from a car that was previously in an accident.

About 2k for 2 headlights sure beats paying $10k for two new ones.

Almost all the mods on my GS are from parts that were from accident cars and zero issues.

I know I'd be trying to pull it apart and fix it. Could be something simple

I was thinking the same thing. If not simple there are some company's who did Retro and custom build that maybe can fix. Its already designed so its not like they are building it, just repairing LEDs.

Default LED Headlights

Correct me if I am mistaken but I am under the impression that non-Luxury package 450hs came with BiXenon headlights.

They did. My base 450h had the regular HID, I retrofitted the LED headlights.

Don't pay 5K to fix/replace a burnt bulb/failed unit.

I would try to fix it myself, could just be something very obvious like a bad solder joint, something loose, hopefully something you could fix. I would call around to electronics repairers to see if they could fix it or maybe you know someone who is good with electronics/fixing them. Hunt around for used units, anything aftermarket that may work/tie you over.

Call Lexus corporate, see what they say, ask if there was any recall or any help they can give you and you think it is abusing their customers to charge so much to fix/replace a headlight. Tell them you can't afford it and its a safety issue.

This is the main reason I am fine with HID's and don't need, demand, or want complex LED setups or laser lights. When they fail or are damaged, and they do in some cases it is going to cost a fortune, so much in may be debatable if its worth paying/keeping the car for a damn headlight.

Don't assume anything on His car is Standard. He custom installed just about every upgrade and option. Even the Clock,

If its not on His car at this moment, He has the parts already and is about to do a DIY install thread on it. lol!

Its a GS450h350LuxFSportGSFEuro Model.

Default Lights

So the OP appears to be Canada. I guess the Canadian GS' came with standard LED lights as he states he has a base car.

I have a set of the LED lights I bought on EBay pretty cheap. They had been opened to install an LED strip for some reason and of course they have some broken tabs. Figured I would fool around with them one day and maybe see if they actually work. Peasodos, how long of a job is it to remove bumper, replace headlights and parts on inside for the switch, then put it all back together? Figured I have to be real bored one day...
