Unhappy Mileage on original tires

Hi,
How many miles did you guys get on your original tires? I'm at just under 40K and the dealer is telling me 'I need to think about new tires. I do all highway driving and am used to 70-80K on a set of tires. 2019 GS F sport.

Good luck getting 70k miles with a rwd car, even if you rotate every 5k miles I doubt you'll get 60k.

Look at the tread depth, you don't want to drive in the rain with nearly worn out tread. I got 30K miles on my OE tires. (2015 GS350 F-sport.

Most people that drive 50/50 city/highway don't get more than ~35k miles on OE tires. Some get less than 25k miles. With 'all' highway driving I could see getting maybe 45-50k miles, but that would be pushing it.

Your best bet is to install tires with a 70k warranty, such as the Pirelli Cinturato P7 All Season Plus. You could possibly get 100k miles with all highway driving.

Buying from a reputable tire dealer (e.g. Discount Tire) if you fail to get the warrantied mileage you'll receive a rebate for the mileage you failed to achieve when you replace the tires, which can be the exact same tires or a totally different brand.

I believe it averaged to about 40k on the Dunlop sp sport Maxx. I was so satisfied that I replaced with the same.

Age of tire is also a factor good tread or not. I typically won't drive on tires more than 4-5 years.

Would you get a better ride with the Michelin tires or last longer for the mileage?

I have almost 48000 miles on my OEM Michelin tires. They still look decent. I think i can get another 7000 miles out of them. Mostly city driving, about 60-40 split. Mine is a 2016 AWD base.

Just measure the thread depth yourself. You can buy a electronic gauge. Doesn’t matter what your dealer says. But never get tires from your dealer unless you want to overpay.

The 1st owner got 42k miles on the DunlopSP Sport 5100 tires in 3yrs of driving it. I'm the 2nd owner & got 20k miles out of the Dunlop Signature HP All Seasons I put on when I first purchased the car CPO (43k miles to 61k miles). I just replaced with the same Dunlop Signature tires not because of the mileage as I only drove ~20k on 'em...but because they were approaching 6yrs old.

Seems like you're doing a lot of miles if you have 40k on the tires and its a 2019 GS - lots of factors affect the treadwear (temperature, garaged/outdoors, climate, road conditions, driving style) so its very possible that they are worn even at 40k.

It's AWD, not RWD

Also need to consider the treadwear rating on the tires. The lower the number, the faster they wear.

On my 15 GS AWD (Michelin Primacy), I had about 22k miles on it when I parted with it and hadn't even used up half of my usable tread depth. I figured I would have gotten at least 50k on them if I had kept it longer.
