Newb Question, engine noise
Please excuse the ignorance of my question. I am a ES 350 owner looking at GS 350's. Is there a reason that the GS 350 engine (both are 3.5 V-6) is louder, specifically the injectors and valve train?
Love the car, but the engine noise concerns me. Could it be just the ones I have driven, or are all GS 350's louder than the ES series due to a difference in the engine.
Again, I apologize for what may be a simple answer.

simple way to put it is that the car is sportier (under the hood) from the factory...
you can remove the sound generator, cover up the fuel injection pump (pre 2016), replace your tires and drive it in ECO all the time - that'll make it quieter.
BUT Then what's the point!? Go back and drive it like you stole it and you'll never go back to the ES but if it's not your cup of tea then maybe the GS is not for you.

I know the car is louder and stiffer than the ES. The ones I have driven are 2016's.

The intake manifold on the longitudinal V6s is much more centered and there is open space on the sides of both heads for noise to escape.
If you are looking at a used car and have concerns about excessive valvetrain and injector noise, I would advise going to a dealer that has a low mileage example and ask to start that one to compare.

Loud ticking is normal. I've owned 3 GS and an IS350 over the years. If you have concern get it check out by a Lexus mechanic.

Thats funny. I understand the sport series and that is why I am looking. My concern is loud ticking, even close to knocking that is a lot louder than the same V-6 in the ES. Are there differences between the 2 engines?

ES350 didn't get direct injection until 2019. I will say that the direct injection on my 2019 and 2020 GS (with the 2GR-FKS) is massively quieter than it was on my 2015 GS (with 2GR-FSE).

wait so we can run it quieter 🤔 does that get rid of the annoying ticking sound or that’s wishful thinking.

You can if you unplug the DI pump. lol. It'll just run crappy and rely on the port injectors.
The ES350 engines up before the redesigned engines are slightly different from the GS\IS lineup.
