The GS sold well for years. As I recall, the original sales goal of the 4GS was 20k a year. The issue is that Lexus let it stagnate.

2012 - 22,160
2013 - 19,742
2014 - 22,198
2015 - 23,117
2016 - 14878
2017 - 7,773
2018 - 6,604
2019 - 3,378
2020 - 2,560

The trend is towards SUVs. Maybe they name a SUV as GS. Who knows.

No, please do not turn the GS name into SUV. Just let the GS rest in peace.

If the sales expectations were 20k per year like you say, it looks like they should have been happy for four years until 2016. Well, what happened in 2016? They probably announced a refresh and got people hoping there would be some significant changes and what did they do? Changed the grill and that was about it. If I had to guess, a lot of people who would have bought the GS looked elsewhere when there was no significant change and that was the beginning of the end. It's almost like Lexus set the GS up to fail and when it did they said, "see, nobody's buying it, let's cancel it". I'd be willing to bet if they made some significant changes to it in 2016, it would have sold better.

Yeap, I agree. I think people were looking or hoping for something dramatic in improvement in performance, or new technology I guess.

It was a mid generation refresh and Lexus did exactly that, updated the infotainment, facelift, and tuned a bunch of other things. What they needed was a redesign to even have a shot of revitalizing the GS. This current generation has gone on for nearly 10 years, it's way past run it's course and Lexus decided to just can it.

Yeah, I think Lexus planned another to be ready before canning it. I was thinking they made the ES350 F Sport as the replacement. IMO, it's not the same as the GS.

They could surprise us in a few years with an all electric GS Just my pure speculation. Toyota is suppose to unveil their solid state battery technology that should have significant implications for electric cars.

As far as used prices go, it's going to be like this for awhile. The chip shortages will not be abating anytime soon, regardless of the pandemic. There is severe drought in Taiwan and semiconductor plants use a lot of water
Being that the GS is an IS with a different body and interior. The chassis, suspension, drivetrain are all shared with the IS. I'm guessing the IS will eventually morph into an in between car. I hope Lexus continues on with RWD platforms.

Probably not. The ES will fill the GS space and the IS will just remain a compact and maybe move into midsize. Even then, Lexus hasn't really put any wow factor in any of their vehicles recently. I'm pretty bum about the IS redesign. I was hoping it would be a game changer. New face and body panel with the same interior. It's all starting to look very vanilla compare to their rivals. MB has an interior that pulls people in. All the digital stuff and fancy fragrances. It doesn't matter if they use the feature or not. Even Genesis has something unique. People who buys these luxury tends to show off a bit.

When I saw the leaked interior photos of the new NX, it didn't wow me. I though I was looking at a Toyota and I'm disappointed that Lexus didn't put in the effort to make it unique.

What I'm saying is that Lexus is not risking anything and playing it too safe. Having each models stay on the market for more than 4 years without a major redesign is going to hurt them in sales.

Sold my 13 Gs luxury for $2000 more than I paid to Carvana. 32,000 miles, no one else even close. Last summer. Miss it.
