Default 2013 gs 350

I am a little baffled. My cooling system apparently works well. Temperature stays a little under the middle. So I noticed when the car is hot, just driven, the coolant level in the reservoir is low, almost empty. After it cools a bit the coolant comes back to the reservoir and registers full.
I thought that was supposed to work the other way. Can anybody verify on there car? Is the reservoir full when cold or hot?
I'm a little concerned. I have topped off the reservoir, when cold. I do not see any leaks. I have topped it off a couple times now. Not sure I had the cap of the reservoir on properly, (or maybe the tube or cap is plugged were it exits to atmosphere) cause it spit a little one time around that location, so I am checking that carefully now. Going to monitor fluid usage, hope I don't need to add anymore.
Anybody have a plugged reservoir cap?? You know, where the tube exits the tank to open atmosphere. I am really wondering if the cap or hose exiting to atmosphere is plugged somewhere. I can't imagine me not snapping on the cap properly, but making sure now.
Thank you for any info I can gather.
