Coolant Drain And Fill, 2013 GS350 (AWD, 2GR-FSE)
Hi,
Has anybody done a coolant drain and fill on a GS350 AWD with the 2GR-FSE engine. There's a lot of info on the 2GR-FE with a coolant bleed screw, I can't find any help on my engine. Is a coolant bleed necessary?
Any help appreciated, thanks in advance.

Bump, I'd like to DIY this summer. My approach is just drain the coolant from the petcock at the bottom of the radiator, then fill it back up and squeeze the hoses at temperature to try and get the air out?
Alldata shows the procedure is to release the engine drains, I can't find them, and/or don't want to tear things apart to get to them, I suspect alldata's diagram is from an early revision of this engine.
Has anybody just done a coolant drain and fill on the GS350 4th gen with success?

I've drained and filled multiple times on a V6 Camry with a 2GR-FE which is pretty much the same except for lacking direct injection.
I tried draining the block from the two drain plugs on either side of the engine. It was difficult to get to them on the transverse engine, particularly the back one. After doing it once, I wouldn't bother with them on the FWD version. In the longitudinal configuration, I'm not sure how easy they are to get to but I wouldn't bother with them either.
How many miles do you have? I wouldn't worry about changing coolant until 100k miles. I'm not quite there on my GS but what I'm planning to do is drain the radiator and refill with every oil change. It's super easy to drain the radiator and easy to fill it if you get a funnel like the previous poster linked. There are 9 qts or so of coolant in the engine and the radiator should hold about 4. After about 4 radiator drains, I think you'll have about 90% new coolant. As I approach 100k miles I might do two or three radiator drains at my nearest oil change and then one drain every oil change after that for the rest of the time I have the car. Draining and filling the radiator is easier than doing the oil change and takes no time to do.

Draining and filling is easy, burping bubbles can be a pain. Not sure if there are any tips/tricks on this engine?
I've used the Lisle version of the funnel that is referenced above on some Nissan's and it was super helpful.

Yes, i have that funnel, car is almost 9 years old, 75K miles. I'm of the mindset changing coolant helps corrosion on the water pump and other electrolysis problems that can occur, call it cheap insurance. I keep cars for a long time.
What tripped me up was this video on a similar engine, and the tubing drain and process used to aid bleeding, and the comment that the FKS is much more difficult to bleed. OK, what about the FSE?:
The GS FSE variant doesn't have that port on the intake manifold, at least that I can find, to connect the tube. There is a line that routes from that area to below the fill area though, I'm wondering if that's there to aid in bleeding. I figured someone on this forum has to have done a drain on a GS with this engine and might have some advice on how it went.

CL has it's own guide with the same engine in an IS. https://www.clublexus.com/how-tos/a/...adiator-362361
I've attached the official guide too. Looks as simple as
Open drains
Close drains
Fill with coolant
Squeeze pipes
Run car at 2000rpm and squeeze some more
Cool and check levels under cap.
No buggering around with silly funnels and pipes going here there and everywhere like you see on the 2GR-FE

I've drained the radiator and block and replaced the radiator hoses on a 2GR-FE and had no real problems with getting air out. I think if you're doing only a radiator drain that there will be even less problem with it. I think you run into problems when you drain the block or heater core. Last time I did a radiator drain on the 2GR-FE I just filled and squeezed the upper radiator hose with the engine running until air didn't come out anymore then filled the overflow reservoir half way and heated the engine up for 10 minutes or so with my foot on the gas a little, probably 2000 rpm or so. I think it sucked in some of the overflow coolant after it cooled and then I topped it up if it went down over the next week.
As I haven't done this on my GS and 2GR-FSE yet, I'm not sure if there are issues it would have as the two engines have different upper radiator hose and thermostat configurations but I don't think it will.

Looks really straight forward.
If anyone plans on doing this in the near future, let us know how it went.
