Hey all! I have been in the 3IS territory for about a year now, so not that long. I absolutely love love love my 2016 IS awd, except ONE SINGLE THING! My Dang Leg Room!! I am seriously soo frustrated i didn't see this one. simple. issue. from the beginning.. So i am here you ask you 6foot GS awd owners, how is it? In my IS, its so dang crammed around my feet, i cant even get my right leg straight because of the stupid hump. My foot is constantly angled because of the hump and it gets sore and very uncomfortable!! Do you have to tilt your foot in the GS to hit the gas pedal? I would really hate to get rid of my baby, but if the GS is doable in AWD with the hump, im seriously considering it. I live out in the boonies so i haven't gotten to test drive a GS yet, but just wanted to get some 1st hand experience from you guys that have commuted an hour + in a GS awd.

Im 6ft tall, i found the IS to be cramped which is why i bought my GS instead.

I’m also 6ft and one of the reasons I bought my GS over the IS was the legroom. I don’t find the AWD hump impacts my legroom fortunately.

6'1 here, GS lets me stretch out real good, and I don't even have to have the seat all the way back. When I sat in an IS recently as a loaner I did have to move the seat all the way back to feel decently comfortable.

The GS makes me feel like I'm lounging.

I'm 6'2 and that was certainly a huge factor in going with the GS over the IS. I could get the seat in a position where it was reasonably comfortable for me in the IS, but at that point no one was going to be able to sit behind me. The GS can sit 4 adults pretty comfortably.

I don't find that the AWD hump is annoying - I don't seem to even notice it but when I clean the car I can tell my foot (or something) is rubbing against the carpet there.

Thanks everyone for the response! Let me ask another question if you dont mind. So for my IS, the only way i can have my foot and ankle straight, is if my heel is right at the base of the pedal. If i bring my foot down anymore than that my heel will hit the bump, forcing me to tilt my foot. Does that make senset? How far can you move your whole foot down the GS pedal until your forced to tilt your foot? This is literally the only reason my IS is driving me nuts, i cant move my foot down the pedal without hitting the hump.

Sorry this isn't the best picture, but as you can see my foot is all the way up the pedal, this isn't very comfortable because its a big angle. My foots all the way up the pedal, but already hitting the bump, so if i bring my foot down anymore ill have to start angling my whole foot to the left of the hump, which also get uncomfortable after 30ish minutes of driving. I know this is pretty silly, but do you see what I mean?? Does the GS have anymore room than that to bring my foot down before it hits the bump?

I’m 6’2 and agree with all the other 6 footers. I cannot even do the IS, but GS has all the room I need to be comfortable and then some! I think it’s best for you to go to test drive it for yourself to get the best clarity for your specific needs. Good luck and hope you make the switch to the GS! Well worth it.

The IS is a compact car. Similar interior space to your average hatchback.

the rear is only for occasional use or for small children.

I am 6 foot and I am very comfortable in my GS, I sit with the seat moved back pretty far and reclined back to where someone sitting behind me would have no leg room. Front seat room is very good and comfortable in a GS, back seat is not so great for a largish mid sized sedan.

The old 2010-17 5 Series based on the even older 7 Series platform had 102 cu ft of passenger space, however the current 5 Series is back down to 99 cu ft of passenger space like its peers.
The 4GS is still totally competitive in that regard - though the discontinued 4GS does not meet the forthcoming side pole protection requirements unlike its newer peers.





To get a lot of interior space, you'd have to go for the old 2014-21 Hyundai Genesis/Genesis G80 with a whopping 108 cu ft passenger compartment.
Even the new Genesis G80 is smaller than the old model - though the new model will meet forthcoming side pole collision requirements.

I'm 186cm and I have the RWD. I find it tight but I'm used to it. For where I need to put my seat, the steering wheel doesn't come far enough out. A definite step down from my (what you'd call a Pontiac G8) but that was a large car.

Just to show that 4GS is not behind peers in interior space; except for G80 which is much bigger than competition.
3IS is a bit small inside, but the C Class has the same 90 cu ft; though 3 Series slightly bigger at 94 cu ft.
However, the compact cars have much more agility than their midsize brethrens.
