Jeff, that Tesla of yours is proof positive that gasoline powered engines are so yesteryear, already... There'e no telling what we can expect to see in another 20-30 years. The technology is busting at the seams! Whether its for personal use like an Apple smart phone or transportation like the Tesla or Ford's Lightning F-150 EV pickup, if you waste time blinking, you're likely to be skipped over and miss out on the next big thing...
Agreed. I am old enough to remember plugs and points needed replacement at 12K. Leaky carbs. Drum brakes on 4,000 pound cars? Seat belts? The fastest Corvettes did 0 to 60 in 6+ seconds. Most GM 2 speed automatics were slip sliding at 60K.
The cars today are amazing (and safe) in comparison. We are flat-out spoiled today...
And the Tesla Model 3 is the future. I love 'em all.

I had my plugs changed at 60k. I didn't see the old ones, so no idea about ware. I can say my gas mileage stayed the same.

There's nothing better than the sweet sound of solid lifters and the lope of a high-lift high-performance camshaft coming from a big block 396 L78 or 427 L88 Chevy engine fitted with tube headers.

I have a few that can match that.

LFA V10 (actually most high revving V10's are good)
911 GT3 4.0
Flat plane crank V8 (Voodoo or coming LT6)

We are near the end of the road with NA ICE engines, but these would be my picks for sounds to go deaf for.

You could also crash and die on your way to your dealership.

I replaced my plugs on my 2014 a few months back. It had 75k miles when I did it. There weren’t any performance issues that I noticed or a CEL to prompt me to perform the change. Just a peace of mind knowing that new plugs were installed and reducing the risk of seizing etc as I had just purchased the car in May. I followed DIYDans how to video. Very simple job.

i believe toyota is recommending the replacement of the spark plugs at 60k miles due to the design of their direct fuel injection on the earlier model of the gs having carbon fouling/buildup inside the head where the plugs and valves are. for the most part if owners are running premium gas there shouldn't be an issue. the later model gs 3.5 engines came with a secondary fuel injector on the intake ports.

I'm required to change mine at 60000 miles as per the service book but they'd last much longer.
It only costs $100 and a bit of time to do yourself, it's not difficult

You're not 'required' to do anything... There is no law, statute, ordinance, decree, judgment, rule, regulation or permit issued by any governmental authority 'requiring' you to change your spark plugs at 60,000 miles. That service book carries as much authority 'requiring' you to do something to your Lexus vehicle as the service book for your electric toothbrush.

Are you honestly saying you don't regularly service your electric toothbrush according to the manual?

If the vehicle was within warranty and dealer serviced, it would be done no questions asked. These aren't cheap cars for teenagers, they are AUD $110000 vehicles and should be maintained appropriately. The service book is the gold standard for maintaining our vehicles, if it says to do it, I'm going to do it. You can argue with Lexus if you like, I'm not going to.

61k on my 14 DD RX and have no plans of ever changing the plugs. I'll let y'all know if the engine implodes.

I ended up having the brake system flushed and front brakes replaced. As for spark plugs, I will wait till next year, since I'm not quite at 60k yet and I'm not driving the car that much this year due to working from home.
