I'm assuming the struts are different especially in the rear, battery is right over the rear axle. The 450h is about 300 pounds heavier than the regular GS.

Yea I was thinking they would likely be different Struts. Yep that battery directly over in back has to impact, including if you had 2-3 people also in the back seat.

On my 2013 luxury (rip) which I owned from 2015 until it was totaled in Nov 2019, I had no failed shocks (as far as I know). It had 105k miles when totaled.

On my new to me 2017 I had one failed front shock, but this is premium package so they are not AVS.

2013 Lux - 101k on stock suspension. No issues.

Lexus called out that the rear left shock was "sweating" on 06/2017 with about 52k miles on the car. The original owner declined replacement. Here is the shock as of 06/2020 (~90k miles). No issues with it so far.

When I test drove 2013 GS450h, I found the ride to be much softer and more comfortable than GS350.
With softer damping, maybe that's why GS450h shock absorbers last longer?
Less gas and hydraulic pressure inside the cartridges hence less pressure on the shock absorber seals like the shock absorbers on conventional motor vehicles?

True, GS200t/300/350 RWD has 5 different shock absorbers.
GS F has its own springs, shock absorbers and roll bars.
Notice how from 12/2011 to 09/2014, the GS450h had their own rear shock absorbers, however from 10/2014 onwards, the GS450h shared the same front and rear shock absorbers with GS200t/300/350?
AWD used its own springs, shock absorbers and roll bars over the years.

Good info. 2013 GS450h with 66k miles. No problems that i know of. Occasional Daily driver now for about 75 miles per week. This may be my last car if I don’t start driving more.

panyo64 - I had the rear passenger AVS strut/shock (P/N 48530-80779) replaced today (12/17/2021) on my 2018 GS 450h with less than 6k miles on the car with no suspension mods.
The lead Lexus technician discovered the leaking strut 7 days ago when the car was in for routine servicing. The part was ordered on 12/10/2021 and replaced at no charge under warranty on 12/17/2021.

1. 2012 GS250 non-F sport 122k km
2. No, rides excellent.
3. Stock

I fear the day I need to replace them.
And I never ever use the AVS either… There’s no point in running in Sport+ mode on a 210hp sedan…
I will probably just put regular shocks on it but it’s wrong as it should have the AVS shocks which I never ever use….

You do use AVS, because it's constantly adjusting the shock based on sensors to give you that nice ride quality. It does this in all modes. It can adjust within milliseconds of changing road conditions.

Oh, I thought AVS was only electronically adjusting the damping/rebound if the shock between normal and sport+ mode.
Basically just making them stiffer in sport+…

Like peasodos said, the AVS is constantly adjusting regardless of which drive mode you've chosen.
