Default Buying a 2016 GS 350 F Sport L Certified

Found a 2016 GS 350 F Sport L Certified with only 29k miles for 33K. Is this a good deal? I've always loved GS 350's, 3rd gen and 4th gen. I like 2013-2015 F Sport models a little more but the 2016-2020's are still one of my favorite cars under 100K. Always been my goal to own one and finally in a financial position to do so.

How is the maintenance and longevity on the car? I plan to rock this car a 10 years and up to 250k miles or so (I commute and drive about 15-17k miles a year).

Is the gas mileage at least somewhat ok?

Thank you so much.

I bought the same car with 29k miles as well, currently at 140k in almost 3 years. Just tires, brakes/rotors, and gas haha. Recently went to dealer for a rattle/ card in bike wheel sound, dealer ended up replacing the sunroof seal and also took apart the dash and fixed a loose motor related to AC/heater. Besides that, car has been very fun and comfortable to drive.

Recently picked up an 18 Fsport w/ 39k miles for around 35k - ended up upgrading because my 15 Fsport was lost in a crazy storm that ended up flooding the area back in Sept. The GS is an amazing car, doubt you'll ever experience any serious repairs that require you to shell out too much money out of pocket. The L-certified warranty will cover your first 4 services and after that I recommend getting a copy of the detailed service intervals. The car calls for oil changes every 10k miles and in regard to gas mileage I get a combined 19ish with mostly city and I tend to push the car every chance I can =). I don't see any issue with these cars hitting 200+k as long as regular maintenance is followed. What exterior/interior color is the one you are looking at?? Best of luck with your decision!

In this market i think it's a really good deal. Double check the condition of the car as the price seem low. I have seen this kind of mileage and year on a non-fsport on carmax, for an fsport it's a steal. The GS is a good car I have a 2015 fsport with 47k miles on it. so far no problem (still on original brakes).

The car sold before I got there, really sad.

I found this one on Carvana, I usually would never buy from a place like Carvana but the car looks to be in great shape and the Lexus has been serviced every 5K according to Lexus Driver website.

https://www.carvana.com/vehicle/1846472

Is it a horrible idea to buy from Carvana?

You may be able to find some gems using the autotempest site, that's what I ended up using to find mine. It'll pull postings from multiple sources to give you more potential options based on the price/mile range you're looking for.

Hard to believe that in Dec. 2021 a CPO 2016 GS f-sport with 29k is a $33-35k car. 2yrs ago I paid $30k for my CPO 2016 non-F sport AWD GS with 30k miles. Almost mint condition. For another $2.6k I added 3yrs of further extended warranty coverage.

aww damn bad luck, when I was looking for my car I was contemplating driving down to Southern California to get it because northern California has a little bit and after waiting about 2-4 months it just showed up in concord and I bought it for 34500 before taxes. Since you originally wanted a 2016 I would wait for a 2016 rather than buying a 2015 on carvana. But that car looks good, service records and all.

@ashep510 inventory is very low to begin with and the refreshed GS was a low volume seller brand new so even less used options out there. In terms of Carvana, its not a terrible idea but they have been in the news lately for having issues with getting title/docs to owners.

The issue with Carvana is because they don't have any physical sales locations, they are attempting to deliver cars to buyers and the titles for those cars in different states - each state has different rules regarding titling/registration etc and Carvana has struggled in this area. Some folks have had no issues, while others have had nightmarish experiences.

If you are looking for the most driving focused, best handling GS350 it will likely be a 2015 RWD F-Sport. Many have mentioned that 2016+ is more refined and not as sharp, but is also less "harsh" as Lexus dialed back on the sportiness factor and added a slew of updates.

Be patient if at all possible but if you see something you really like, you'll need to act quickly.

Jeeeeze, is that 2015 and all the other priced GS's high as hell! I was watching prices a while back but they must have kept going, and going, and going /\. I just searched Auto Trader too.

If I lost mine, I a not sure I would want to buy another with those price? I would likely look at other brands even though they are all high. To think Lexus discontinued the GS. Go figure?

I bought my 2013 GS 350 AWD from Carvana in July 2021 and had a good experience. I paid $27,590 not including tax. It had only 34,700 miles and was in very good condition (no curb rash, no scratches in the paint only a couple of rock chips). It had the premium package, cold weather package, blind spot monitor, radar cruise control/pre-collision system, 18 inch superchrome wheels. Also it had never been owned in a cold weather/road salt state which you can see on the Carfax. I would definitely recommend getting a car from warm weather states like the South or Southwest/West Coast so there will be no problems with rust on the frame. I specifically wanted a 2013-2015 as I prefer the grille over the 2016+ grille. The only thing I don't really like are my fog lights, but I'm pretty sure the F Sport has no fog lights.

If you don't like the car you can return it for up to 7 days and 400 miles I think. They also have a 100 day / 4,189 mile warranty. I had it inspected by a mechanic the day after Carvana delivered it. Carvana also put 4 brand new tires on the car so that was a plus. Their prices are about $1-3k higher than local dealers but they pretty much only sell cars that have no accidents on the Carfax. Some people have reported delays getting their plates before their temporary tags expire but from what I've read that is a small minority. I got my plates about 1 week before my temp tags expired.

DO NOT buy from Vroom. There are tons of people who have nightmare stories with getting their cars registered and their plates. That company is extremely shady.

The gas mileage is pretty horrible especially if you drive even moderately fast or do a lot of city driving and it only takes premium gas. I see you are in CA, that means at least $5/gallon for premium so to fill your tank will be at least $80 per tank. The AWD is rated 19 city/26 highway, RWD is rated 19 or 20 city/28 or 29 highway. In real world driving I get 14-17 mpg city and 22-24 highway so it's a gas guzzler. You might want to try to find a GS 450h with CA gas prices and if you drive a lot of miles. The 450h is still very fast (still has 3.5L V6) and is rated 29 city/34 highway on premium gas. But Lexus didn't sell many 450h so they are pretty rare and hard to find. They also came in F Sport trim.

Starting in 2014 the RWD models got the updated 8 speed transmission, AWD always have the 6 speed auto that the 2013 RWD have. Some people say the 8 speed slightly reduces the acceleration/responsiveness but its not a huge amount of complaints about this or it's not too bad in the GS. LOTS of complaints about the 8 speed being too quick to upshift, very slow to downshift and having jerky shifts in the RX 350, ES 350, Camry, Avalon, and Highlander.

From a dealership that's not a bad deal at all. In Sept. I paid $27k private for a 2016 F sport, white on red with 33k miles, mint.
