Default Battery maintainer

I'm about to put my GSh in storage for a very long time since I drive a company-provided vehicle now. I have never used a battery maintainer and after doing a bunch of research, does amperage matter if it's just maintaining the battery? Can I hook the battery maintainer while the battery is connected to the vehicle?

Yes, I've been using a Battery Tenders on my lawn mower and my muscle car for years. One will charge a low battery and then kick over to trickle-maintenance mode. The other will only maintain an already charged battery. I get 6 years out of a lawn mower battery and I got 12 out of my last battery in my muscle car.

No, amperage doesn't matter unless you are trying quickly charge a battery. I've even used the cheapy wall wart models from Harbor Freight with good success.

What matters is not the amperage. But a quality one like a Ctek to ensure no damage to the battery or the cars electronics. Which on a hybrid is very expensive if you blow anything.

I have the Optima tender and would recommend it. It will also do the Optima batteries and small motorcycle ones.
