There is a reason why the 4GS (200T/300, 350, 450h) was routinely selling for over 15% off MSRP when brand new and why it was eventually discontinued. The only way to maintain this POS is to pay for the armrest and then rest your elbow on your thigh.
Thank you for the links. You're saying the car as a whole is a POS or just the armrest? haha

All they had to do was use a thicker vinyl on the doors, not this paper thin stuff.
From what I'm seeing (haven't had the car very long), this is a very true statement. Most I've looked at have this issue.

Mine is starting to show ripples and you can tell the underlying padding is deteriorating.

I've not had it apart to confirm but that part of the arm rest looks like it is rather cheaply covered in a thin vinyl with 1/8" padding equivalent to what they put under some ceiling coverings.

If mine gets worse, I will pull it apart and see if I can clean the foam padding out and apply something a little more rugged before trying to glue/stretch the vinyl back over it.

How will the entire car be when its manufacturer cannot even design an armrest? Lexus/Toyota has been in business by selling age-old technology in the name of "reliability".

I've had good luck with them, however I agree that some things are archaic, like the nav systems. They don't really work that great and it's like watching a 16 bit video game.

I hope you can fix your armrest with the good luck you had with them.

This is a problem I have seen on many 13 - 20 GS's. I do the same as was stated which is try to even touch it as little as possible for that reason.

This actually is something that we should all complain to Lexus Corporate cust service about. Because with the softness and where it is, Its highly likely that we will all see this as a problem later on. The option of finding another on ebay will be getting slimmer as years go by for 2 reasons IMO. One that many will also be damaged, and who wants to replace a damage for damage. Two, when something like this becomes sort after because of a problem the used part price of a good one can become sky high cost due to the limited good ones ,a nd the demand.

If on a Lexus Service visit and we ask that they refer it to Lexus if showing to wear, or already messed up, or call Lexus customer support ourselves. When brought to their attention is when they do customer support and fix for you. Adding up complaints here does not.

If this is the case and we should start, do you recommend starting a thread taking note of all the people that have this issue and coordinate? I'm in, regardless. I suppose I could have an automotive repair place (locally) fix it and call it a day, but I see your angle here and agree. Maybe we should bring it up to Lexus.

I use one of these on my door. Sure, it's not that visually appealing, but ultimately I care more about comfort.

Hey thanks! So looking at the vid link I saw this one in the vid that looks closer to the GS size.

Is that this one?

Trying to figure which to get that fits right in with the GS armrest?

Which to you have? The one in the pic on your post?
