I had an audi prior to my GS and one of the batteries had to be disconnected or else there would be error codes. Is that the same for the GS?

No battery doesn't have to be disconnected to remove the headlights and you won't get any warning on the dash, unless you turned the car on with the headlight disconnected. However once you reinstall the headlights and turn the car on those warning lights on the dash go away.
I changed my headlights without disconnecting the battery. Most of the mods on my car I didn't disconnect the battery, even retrofitting the HUD. Lexus is way more practical in their engineering than Audi.

it's always good practice to unhook the battery when doing any electrical work, but as others stated the car is none-the-wiser!
admittedly i too don't remove the battery connection when even doing the most complicated work such as installing aftermarket air suspension or doing radio installations (albeit on older vehicles).
