Default volume **** doesn’t work

the radio volume **** on my 2014 GS350 does not work. I don’t hear anything, I don’t see the volume level pop up on the nav screen, and nor does the volume toggle on the steering wheel work either. Otherwise the radio works just fine - it has power, I can switch between AF/FM/Sat, can change channels, etc.

In the IS forum a number of folks IDed this as an amplifier failure. does anyone know where the amp sits in the GS? Apparently it’s in the trunk on IS models.. Any experience with replacing the amp or is that something done by Lexus?

Hey, check both radio fuses and the multimedia fuse from under the glove box. After that try disconnecting/reconnecting the battery.

Did either of you reach a resolution? My 2013 started doing the exact same thing last night. Volume **** and steering wheel volume control do nothing and the volume indicator doesn't show up on the display.

Thanks,
JP

Interesting. My 2013 went through this a couple of times starting in the Fall. I checked for water damage on amplifier, unplugged amp connectors, etc. It would inexplicably start working for no reason when I would start the car up on randomly. The strangest part was on Thanksgiving, I drove to a destination in silence for 45 minutes, stopped for a quick rest break, five minutes later, started the car back up, and like a Thanksgiving miracle (from my mother) it has worked since. Now I only drive the car 2 times per week so it sits more than it drives. My theory is that I used to “silence” the radio by holding the source button down to mute it. Somehow, the system gets stuck in that permanent “mute” system mode, and it needs to clear the memory. So unplugging the battery may work, or try toggling the mute button on/off a couple of times. Just my theory, but magically, mine has not had a problem since I stopped using the source button.

Hrm. Check fuses, and check your grounds for corrosion. maybe even hard wire a ground for your amp...
