From the video I posted earlier. I've seen a leather wrapped airbag test video before, not this one specific, but airbag functions the same. I'll get one from seller.

Yes leather can be designed to rip open, because it has been designed with an invisible weak seam that works with an airbag.
but here’s the thing, that no one knows if these after market ones still allow the correct amount of force to inflate the bag at the right velocity for optimal contact point with the driver.
we don’t know if there is a seam, and if the seam cutout is to specification.
These are also multistage airbags which can inflate at different forces.
we can be sure the OEM ones even when looks cosmetic to the eye has been designed to spec and tested.
have a read of this. It’s not as simple as some leather wrapping:

well it only shows that the airbag can break out of the seam. But in terms of how it effects velocity of the airbag, video can’t show that. Video also can’t show the full inflation and point of contact, unless you have access to super slow motion camera and a $150,000 test dummy.
the fabric is supposed to be weakened to work with the first layer.

Ended up taking 2 months, first one had a defect in the leather, seller sent it back to the factory and had them make another one. This one is perfect, stitching is perfect, and the beige is exact color match to my dash stitching!
This was made in Hong Kong, I'm assuming all these are made in China.
