DO NOT DO ANYTHING! Unless you know for a fact that the oil was not change, instead of simply not documented, don't screw with it beyond regular oil changes.

First, look at the under side of the oil fill cap. Is it sludged up? Look down inside the engine through the oil fill hole. Do you see a lot of sludge there? If not, you probably don't have a lot of sludge. Change the oil with a good quality synthetic like Mobil 1. It will slowly and surely remove a lot of the sludge over time. Give it time to work.

If you want to have a valve cover pulled off, you can look there and that will tell the fact of the sludge. If there is not much sludge there, again, good quality synthetic oil like Mobil 1.

If you find excessive sludge, you can use a flush as a last resort. I personally wouldn't do it if it holds good oil pressure and has no performance issues. A good quality synthetic oil is all you need but it may take a while. It took years to make the sludge, it could take a year or more to reduce it safely without harming the engine through regular oil changes.

If you must do a sludge flush, I have used 1qt of automatic transmission fluid in the crankcase about 100 miles before you change the oil. Transmission oil is very high detergent oil and won't hurt the engine. Do not drive aggressively or use high RPM. Do a normal oil change. You can repeat this 100 miles before every other oil change for further cleaning.

I bet the oil and filter were changed numerous times during the time the previous owner had the car. You just don't have the receipts or records for proof.

Just use the recommend Toyota oil and oil filter. Change it again in 2,500km and then every 5,000km if that is your plan.

Yeah I bet the oil was changed, just a DIY job or a shop that's not the dealer. My car for example has no records since I purchased it, because I do all the work myself. I set all the maintenance reminders in the infotainment system.

This guy continues to freak out about his high mileage 450h.

When I buy a new used car I change filters and do an oil change right away, inspect brakes ect, then I know the car is good to go.

At least take a flashlight and remove oil cap and peek into the small area for sludge buildup.

Exactly! My car will show no dealer service beyond the brake recall since 2019 and 35,000 miles ago yet I've done everything myself.

I record my maintenance records on the Lexus Owners website and file my receipts.

I am aware that , dealership exists for servicing in usa, and also independant shops, and also dyi maintenance,
but previous owner have done none of these.
I need advice how to prevent his neglegace so i can prevent expensive swapping of another used engine in the near future
