Lexus GS Frameless Rearview Mirror Upgrade
#17
Look at some of my threads from 2016-2018 i think i was one of the first if not the very first to swap a frameless mirror. Mine was from a LX570. got it for $50 mint. direct plug and play.
and yeah everything "genuine" from any car company is generally very cheap and not at all what is charged at retail. everything in and around cars cost very little to make and mostly is a facade of quality to some degree.
if there's one thing about toyota/lexus, they are extremely good at making profit. like extremely good. they know how to milk and game the system better than most if not all car makes. if they can save 0.00001 ounces of foam/plastic because it'll save 0.0001 cents over 100 cars. they'll do it

I just bought this one. I hope I can get it working on my 13 GS350.

Then this one is also in certain years of the ES:

Pretty much seems like all of them are basically the same just some might require repin or extending wires.
lol just when you thought you were done with mods...

Frankly, I absolutely hate the newer mirrors.
The older mirrors with auto-dimming had full coverage, meaning the entire mirror dimmed.
With the newer models, or these 'frameless' ones, there is a no full coverage (i.e., no auto-dimming) area around the entire perimeter.
This is particularly annoying when driving at dawn or dusk since I have to find a perfect spot in my seat to not get blinded by the vehicle behind me with it's super bright, improperly balanced LED lights.
I like the looks of the frameless mirrors, but I care more about function, and I would gladly swap to an older style of mirror. I guess I'm the minority.

"u don't really notice the borders on the glass under normal driving condition, unless your really looking for it"
My windows are tinted 20% so doesn't matter either way. If it's good enough for the LS good enough for my car . Apparently all the Lexus models with homelink have the same exact mirrors.

Success! So my 2013 GSh has a male plug on the rear view mirror. The New one has a female end. I ended up cutting off the male plug from my 2013 and wiring to the end of the 2016 mirror.
I looked at wiring diagrams and they only show 5 wires, but there is actually 6 and the colors of the wires were different. So what I did was plug the male plug from 2013 mirror into the female plug from the 2016 mirror and looked at what color wire from one end connected to the other. Then wired it up accordingly. The brown and Black wires actually went together, the rest didn't correspond. I had no idea the home link lit up through the mirror. Totally worth the upgrade!

So 1 more dumb question? How does that black square cover on windshield that the wire is under come off? Pop off, or slide down? I don't want to break it.
