Very interesting, I'll monitor it over the next few months and see what turns up.

i think some brake fluid take longer to change to brown color. i think if the boiling point for the brake fluid is low it will break down faster so mybe it change to brown so quick? i will try some high end brake fluid brand when i need to change mine.

I had mine changed at the 60k service about 18 months ago and its still clear/light almond color. Just looking at the difference between dot 3 and dot 4, it looks like 4 has a higher boiling point(better) than dot 3. But it absorbs moisture 20% faster than dot3( not better). Maybe someone here knows more about it than me.😉

On a side note I read somewhere that it contains some preservatives for the brake system components / seals etc.

My daughter's 17 Civic had not had a brake flush since new either so I went to work on hers on Sunday. After getting the same problems with the Mityvac, I disconnected the pump and reverted to the old method, using just the collection bottle and my right leg. That worked well, until I forgot to refill the master cylinder and sucked air into the system. It took an extra 20 minutes to ensure I had all the air out, but it the end... success!
Thank god I had the other bottles of fluid for the extra bleeding, I was left with about 3/4 of a bottle after this circus of errors and fails.

I think I used less than 2 bottles on the GS. I could not get the Mityvac to work! The fittings were too big to get a vacuum seal and then when I used a smaller tube, it kept pulling bubbles from the edges, quickly releasing the vacuum. It was a frustratingly l-o-n-g process that did not work well. In the end I got it bled but I was NOT a happy camper.

That's odd, I loved using the Mityvac over any prior method. I used the included clear tube and placed a small zip tie around the edge where it slips onto the bleeder fitting; tight enough to keep the tube secure but loose enough to be removable for the other calipers. Mine also did pull a few bubbles but the vacuum was strong. Either you had a defective unit or perhaps the lid to the collection bottle wasn't on correctly. A couple times I had to open and close it a second time to get a good seal. It also doesn't help that the pressure release was in an easy place to bump.
