Absolutely agree.

Those living and driving in cold environments are (unbeknownst to them) having cold-start engine and transmission wear taking place at an alarming rate compared to those living and driving in warm climate areas.

The engine oil and transmission fluid in vehicles driven in cold climate areas may never (repeat: never) reach ideal, typical operating temperature regardless of how many miles the vehicle is driven or how many minutes it is operated. At cold-start the engine lubrication is delayed and metal-on-metal wear is the result. What most people do not realize is the coolant temperature gauge is totally meaningless when it comes to determining if the engine oil and transmission fluid has reached optimum operating temperature. The result of this is both diminished lubrication and increased contamination from water induced by condensation that may continue to remain combined with the oil for many weeks or months - because the contamination (condensation) is never eliminated by the engine's oil reaching the ideal operating temperature of 100°C (212°F). And, we all know that oil and water do not mix!

I've changed oil at 12k miles before, not ideal but it happens and zero issues. 10K or any manufacturer recommendation is just that a recommendation. They are not going to have a recommendation that's anywhere close to causing damage to your engine, lots of margin of error. I love oil and transmission threads everyone has an expert OPINION

Lexus of Santa Monica wanted $400 for an oil change. I told them they were on something and left. Drove down the street to Toyota of Marina Del Rey and got it done for $99.

Big thumbs down for Lexus of Santa Monica 👎🏻

Lexus of Santa Monica has always been "expensive". I could never strike a deal with them on a new 2014 GS back then either. The dealer does look like a mansion, maybe that's why.
