A long shot but a silly question for the mechanically inclined. The 5 bladed radiator fan needs to come out, it's literally shaking itself to death at high speed, it's disconnected and I've ordered a new motor. The official Lexus step by step guide states the coolant has to be dropped to complete the change, likely due to the upper radiator to engine coolant hose being in the way.
Has anyone ever stood with 2 munted mates around the engine bay and said 'mate I reckon I could just seperate the fan shroud from the radiator and change it right in there!' The motor and fan comes out the back with 3 bolts and 1 nut from the front of the shroud. Even with the coolant reservoir left in place(easily removed) there appears to be 3 inches of room for it to pivot back, seems like plenty.......would only have to remove a few little things like the air intake/ECU vent etc.
the hose will have to be disconnected, you will lose some coolant (refill and bleed air afterwards)...but my mechanic was easily able to remove the fan shroud and replace both motors without fuss (intake, airbox removed)...while he was there, got him to change out the serpentine belt.
