Default Rear Camera

Greetings! I was traveling this weekend and needed an Uber. Unexpectedly, the car that picked me up was my same year make and model! The one difference that I noticed was that he could manipulate his rear camera so that he can see the traffic while hes going forward. Since I was in Manhattan, I could see why he would want to see what's behind him at all times. The traffic is crazy, and so are the people driving in it!

Can someone show me how to do that? Not drive-in Manhattan, I don't have that interest ever! But how to turn on my rear camera while I'm going forward. Thanks!

And no, it was not an additional screen peryou know screen. It looked the very same as ours from the factory.

You should have asked him! There are some settings that you can access that allows you to adjust your rear camera. I've used it to aim mine after it was replaced. Not sure if you can access and use it while driving though. Here is a video that shows you how to access the settings.
However, the video is about a slightly different topic. Maybe the Uber driver had an aftermarket camera or perhaps something like Grom VLine allows you to adjust the camera on the go? Not sure, but there are lots of others here who might know. Good luck.

I can do that with the Best Sonic CS5EP. Its a front camera adapter module but the switch allows you to cycle between the rear camera at any time. I use it mostly at the ATM for extra surveillance.

The module dosent come with a front camera so if you hook it up, it should work for what you want to do. It hooks up easily behind the screen. The only downside is that if you disconnect your battery without a memory saver, you need to pull the unit for a reset process in order to get your rear camera feed back.

Typically these types of hacks require some sort of rewiring, assuming it's fed a by power line connected to reverse (ie reverse lights) .

Edit:

Would possibly require a parking brake bypass ,which would (in theory) allow you to watch DVDs while you drive too.

There is a pretty good thread on it in here, a guy called Lexellent figured it out in 2006.
