The 0000 steel wool + dawn dish soap worked a treat! Much faster than Barkeepers Friend which I tried also. Maybe 5 minutes of work. I'm going to polish the aluminum & then ceramic coat. Thanks for the tips y'all.

Dawn is a fantastic degreasing soap that gently breaks down and removes oil and grease - gentle enough to use on baby birds and other aquatic animals that have been exposed to spilled crude oil or caught in oil/fuel slicks.

It's perfect to use around a marina too where boats are refueled - just a couple drops of Dawn squirted in the water at the marina totally eliminates oil slicks and fuel spills

Dawn dishwashing liquid was powerful enough to effectively remove oil from birds' feathers, while remaining gentle on their feathers, skin and eyes. Rescue groups worldwide have chosen Dawn to clean aquatic animals.

This works very well on any shiny surface.

I did this with 3M Scotch Brite Ultra Fine Hand Pad with a little rubbing compound and Dawn with excellent results removing 10 years worth. Amazon link below:
