Default Remove tail pipe surround discoloration?

The aluminum trim surrounding the tail pipe openings on my 2013 GS are blackened - anyone have good luck with a product to remove this that won't damage the parts or surroundings? Apparently my elbow grease isn't greasy enough.

I ended up painting mine black, but I also did a full chrome delete. Might be an option or may have to find new exhaust tips if the discoloration is permanent.

I've heard a dab of silver polish on a microfiber cloth does a good job, though I've never tried it myself. I don't have tailpipe surrounds on my GS 450h.

I cleaned mine with a dash of bar keepers friend (but they weren't too dirty). This was after i bought it CPO back in 2015 and they've stayed relatively clean since.

Here's a helpful thread w/suggestions ranging from Coca Cola to products from Eagle One and Mothers: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/gs-...lly-clean.html

I used 0000 steel wool when I got mine. You can use the same to polish rust spots out of chrome (even oxidation off "plasti-chrome" like on late 70s/80s car grills/trim) and it won't scratch.

Any fine metal polish and a microfiber.

Plus 1 on the 0000 steel wool. Did the same with soap added. Works great. I also then polished and Ceramic coated to0. Now it just rinses off the sutt.

Hrm, probably? I forgot I had a couple jars of that. But they were a brushed-ish look I thought, so I didn't mind a little scratching from the 0000, and figured it'd look just as good.

Yeah, I did it with dawn/water in a spray.

I'm going to try the Dawn soap + 0000 steel wool + ceramic tomorrow since I have those handy. Thanks y'all.

I was going to add the 350 diffuser and exhaust tips, but never got around to it, and decided to sell the tips I had sitting around. I have the stock 450h diffuser, GSF tail lights, gloss black lux spoiler.

Wet it down with soapy water and let it sit for a min or two. Rub lightly with the steel wool and it wont scratch. I then buffed mine with a small wheel and chrome polish. Then Ceramic coated them. Now they just spray off clean.
