Best model years for under $25k or so? Any years to avoid?

The eco-norm-sport-sport+ setting makes a big difference on how the 8 speed feels. On eco-norm the 8 speed wants to shift up as fast as possible, and downshift as little as possible. 8 speed is a lot more responsive in sport and sport+. I just wish it would stay in sport mode every time I start the car, but it reverts to norm.👎 Also I have never driven the 6 speed so there's that🍻

Isn’t the 8 speed CVT offered only in the hybrid? The other 8 and 6 speed transmissions are simply automatics aren’t they? Constant or continually variable transmissions ‘hunt’ for the (right) gear. Regular automatics don’t.

You actually have your understanding about which type of Lexus transmission 'hunt's for a gear backwards - ALL typical automatics tend to 'hunt' for gears, with the more gears (e.g. 8-speeds) it has and with the greater ratio spacing between gears there is, the more it will tend to 'hunt'. The Lexus eCVT in the Lexus GS 450h on the other hand does not 'hunt' for the (right) gear because it doesn't have gear sets like typical automatic transmissions.
Borrowing this impressive picture of the GS 450h's eCVT that @peasodos posted in another tread.
