Default Happy 10th Birthday Lex 4rth Gen GS!

A lot of our cars have turned 10 years old this year and thought was due for this post since mine is approaching 150K miles.

Mine is a 2013 Liquid Platinum with Black Interior.

It has the Luxury package, Cold Weather PKG, BSM, Intuitive Park Assist and factory installed remote start.

The car has been trouble free for the 6 years I have owned it.

Change fluids and filters per OEM specifications usually Oil 7-10K and brakes, tires and battery etc. as needed.

Always use Premium Gas (Costco usually) and add Royal Purple 18000 Fuel Injector Cleaner at 3-4K mile intervals.

Have unlimited brushless car wash subscription so have this done at least weekly with undercarriage wash.

I love driving this car and do indeed drive it a lot (compared to most on this forum) even if its raining or snowing and don’t hesitate taking it on a longer trip.

As my daily driver, don’t try to keep the mileage low and think this is key to high reliability. These cars like to be driven and opened up! Luckily I don't need to sit in stop and go traffic as I believe that takes a toll on cars as well.

Have had new plugs in hand for some time now, but been reluctant to put them in as the car still drives like the 1st day I got it averaging just over 20 mpg over the long run.

If I change these in the next few weeks or months, I’ll post pics of what approx 150K mi plugs look like on these cars. Original tranny and diff fluids as well as shocks.

Usually replace my cars at 160-180K, but hate to let this one go as I love it so much.

Also feel it’s a badge of honor to rack up the mileage so would be cool to take this one over 200K.

Besides my GS, the wife and daughter have RX350’s that they adore. The RX’s drive like cars and are also very reliable.

Prior to the GS, I had an 04 ES, before that 2000 Maxima GLE, 92 Prelude SI, 84 Civic CRX and a 72 Camaro. My estimate is I’ve driven these for 800K miles combined and like the GS the most.

Not sure what’s next but have been selectively looking at LS500h, Tesla (since the massive price cut and incentives) and of course may get another GS knowing the car so well and confidence in its reliability. But since I’m in no rush, will hold out till I figure out what I really want.

Can say I’ve driven this GS over 100K miles and still love her nor bored with her!

Any other 10 year stories?

Hey cool idea for a thread! I'll follow your template more or less.

Mine is a 2013 RWD F Sport in nebula gray and flaxen (peanut butter) interior. Currently odometer is at 82K.

I have the Levinson stereo (very clean sound but less power and bass than I would expect for a premium upgraded one), dual pane windows, park assist, BSM.

Had the car for a little over year with no real issues except a dead battery (based on paperwork this one lasted 3 years) and a noticeable sunroof clunk (have the seal just haven't messed with it yet - a little apprehensive as the torx bolts seem to be extremely tight)

I drive the car only about 10-12K per year so I'm doing oil changes myself at 5K, always use premium gas from costco

Have become obsessive about cleaning the car so do it every 1-2 weeks myself with a rinseless technique that is a real pleasure and saves a lot of water

Driving on Maui I do not get any highway miles so the traffic is not stop-and-go exactly, but definitely not that easy on the car. I have a light foot and am managing about 22 mpg even in these unfriendly conditions. I do have a couple spots where I can open the car up, and I really enjoy doing a couple of WOT runs to around 100 a couple times a month just to stretch the legs.

Maintenance wise I actually celebrated the car's actual 10th birthday (it was manufactured in August 2012) by changing the coolant and brake fluid myself and getting the transmission and differential serviced by my mechanic. Still have the original spark plugs, planning to get those done in the next year or so.

In years past I always bought cars brand new and drove them more or less into the ground before replacing. I absolutely love this car so I want to get it to around 200K if possible which would be another 10-12 years. My previous rides were '94 Saturn manual, '03 Honda Accord manual, '12 Volvo S60 (totaled before buying the GS).

i have kind of a bad attitude about electric cars, but I'm sure my next car will be some version of a hybrid or electric. Can't imagine what it would be. Every time I get in a new car I am bothered by the intrusive tech on the dashboard etc. Getting old I suppose.

So far my favorite things about the GS are the surprising handling ability, deceptive speed and the comfort and look of the interior. Least favorite is the relatively rough ride in Sport + (tough trade off because I like the heavier steering feel and reduced body roll) and how noisy it is at idle.

Not a 10 year story, but I have long had the habit of keeping a car for 3 years, then getting bored with it and moving on. This is why I started leasing many years ago. My 15 GS, on a 3 year lease, was the first car I've ever owned that I absolutely did NOT want to part with at that 3 year mark. Still loved it like day 1, or maybe even more than day 1. I had decided to buy it out of the lease but the terms made no sense, so I decided to purchase (not lease) a 2019 GS. I regretted my color choice so I swapped it out for a 2020, and intend to keep this one for at least 10 years. So at this point, I've been in GSs for over 7 years and I've never had that happen with any car before.

@PGA71 great thread topic! Love the Lux package offerings.

I have an early build 2013: Starfire Pearl on Flaxen GS350 AWD, Premium & Cold Weather Packages w/18" OEM "Superchrome" wheels, BSM, Park Assist.

Purchased in 2015 as CPO with 43k miles. Odometer currently sits at 68k miles. I've averaged around 3k-4k miles a year. No major issues - money saved went towards minor mods

Not planning to sell, but if I were: staying in the Lexus sedan family, I'd consider a used LS500 F-Sport. Really want to see the styling of a new 2024 GX. I've also contemplated keeping my current GS and getting an SUV like a Range Rover Sport.

Excellent characteristics overall - i've come to really appreciate the 4GS over the years for its reliability and split personality: can be a calm, collected luxury cruiser or a swift, nimble and ready-to-rock sports sedan when ready. Figured i'll throw up some night shots of my '13.

I still consider this the “new” GS, forget it’s been out for 10 years already. 13-15s have aged well, I’d argue even more so than the facelift ones.

Still love that Grill, especially on the Lexus Preal White which no other cars Pearl White even comes close too.

Thanks fellas! Interestingly, the company that made the grill was called E&G Classics and they went out of business. They did well when shiny/chrome/blingy mesh grilles were popular but those trends are yester-year. There are some other aftermarket grill options for our GS:

http://racemeshgrilles.com/LEXUS-IS-...lle_p_167.html (they say they can make a custom grill so I imagine they could do a mesh for the pre refresh GS)

https://www.ebay.com/itm/234658004650

There is also the DIY route:
Amazon Amazon

I wonder if the IS will continue as well. Cars just don’t sell like they used to.
Enthusiasts are not the masses.
EV’s are coming and the investment of new platforms is massive.
IS was a refresh body mostly on an older model.
The bench mark was BMW 3 series. Now its the X3? NX is a big seller.
My world for years was 2001 Eclass, 2004 Audi Allroad 2.7twin turbo with 6mt, 2007 530i with sport, 6mt, 2007 328i similar as 5301, 2013 535i MSport with 6mt, then my 2020 GS350 AWD Fsport. See the pattern? LOL: CARS!!
I just moved to a low mile 2019 LS500 AWD. Wife is like “Why?”……..”our last chance for reliable luxury ICE”. No doubt not as nimble as the GS but it has its own charms. The sales numbers are way down on the very model that defined Lexus from day 1! Now its Cuv/SUV’s.
Perhaps the Next GS will be born from the Toyota Crown platform as the “Sedan SUV Sportback” as its a big seller for the German builds. Not the same. Things change.
Congrats tot he long term owners of the GS who are still enjoying their cars! Very reliable and enjoyable machines!

The Crown will be as close as Toyota gets to a new Lexus GS. Its as simple as what sells, and what was not. The IS still sells very well. Times change, as you think about the GS350 introduced in 2013, but now in 2023 there are 300hp Corolla's that make 40 more ft pounds of Tq than the GS350 lol!

So true - I remember folks mentioning the 4GS leased-well in the first few years it made its debut. But then, in 2016 and 2017 MB and BMW made significant updates to their mid-size sedan offerings and more/more people over the years jumped ship from sedans to SUVs.

During my ownership of the 4GS, I was sure there was going to be a 5GS because the 4GS was just that good IMHO. I figured i'd hold on to my 4GS until 2025 and be able to get into a nice, 3yr old used 5GS. Oh well! Guess i'll keep on truckin' with my '13

Yes the GS over years GS400, 300, 430, 350, Sold like crazy. Everyone hates on and blames the ES which is Not the case IMO, being the ES was actually the 2nd ever Lexus line. Personally I think the 4th Gen should have only been a GS460 V8, maybe and the 450h. The GS350, 3.5 even if taken to a 3.7 motor like other car makers, would have been better than just cosmetic changes only. No GS350.

Think you had the GS460 like me. What a nice V8 motor, so smooth and powerful, but quite and laid back. Just a test drive in a GS460 Sold the car over the BMW, MB or Audi alone. It was a Lexus thing that only Lexus could do Lexus like drive and ride. If not for me Modding my GS350 to get 40+ more hp and Tq out of it, mine would be gone and, on to the G70 or BMW 650i, (with a long extended service contract only). I would have been gone too. I'm a lot happier with my GS350 mooded, but still have thoughts of dropping the GS F motor right in. At this point only that I have about 20+ more hp to finish and get out of my GS350, is why I still have it being that hp and tq are a big deal to me.

At the end of the day I'm happy keeping my 13 GS350 Lux, with only 48k on the clock at this time. Crazy over inflated car prices also help me keep it too. My GS350 started as a 2013 Lux. It's nice to keep doing only what would equal only one or a half new car payment cost mods, that keep me happy with it still. lol! Reason I metion these things is to share that for example, if you have a 2013, for only say 2-6 new car payments, you can upgrade your GS in looks, Infotainment system, and handeling and performance, and its quite a diffrence. I have 3 GS350 friends here all with 13-15's, and ours cars all are much more satifying to drive, enjoy and look at. We like the 13-15 modded look and dont want them to look exactly like the 16+.

I going to soon do a Build thread if I ever get done. Nothing real diffrent than some here, but still a few things that don't show up here. RCF 19" Forged Staggared Wheels with wider tires, Swift springs, upgraded Think Designs, Steering front and Rear Bushings, Megan front Strut bar, Think Designs Front Splitters with F Sport converted front end. 16+ Rear Tailights, Flow Bench ported Matched Intake Manifold, Headers with GECI hi flow cats, Enlarged and Ported TB, Ripp Ignition coils, and F Sport Stop Tech Drilled Rotors and Akebono Performance Pads, Tanabe Exhaust (Not too loud!), AEM Intake, Transmission Detent shift adjusted, D3 Performance Tune.

My GS350 is still getting great B Day gifts. Reason I posted these is because for not a whole ton of money you can do lots of things to your 13-15 to upgrade it nicely yourself. On my list parts I currenlty have still when time permitts to install is the Apple Carlinkit Full screen 16+ Screen and Carlink kit. A nice seperate sub system & Amp with all upgraded interior speakers to help the Factory ML system. GS F Calipers and Rotors. Factory GS450h Following Triple Beam LED Headlights. (my next Mod below). A real Big Thanks, to peasodos for sharing all those mods and upgrades and the other too.

https://www.clublexus.com/forums/gs-...l#post11420393

FYI - We should start a "Show us your 13-15 GS" thread!
