Got it all in and rebuilt the mirror. The broken tab deformed before it snapped so when I glued it back, the hole was off by 1/4" so I had to drill it out and make it slotted. It went together OK after that. Now, to swap it out tomorrow.

Pics for your entertainment.

New parts.

Assembled mirror. Good paint match.

Assembled mirror.

And be careful backing into the garage from now on. I'll admit. I have done worst.

As I said, I've been backing into this garage for over 16 years and the first 11 was with vehicles without rear cameras. I prefer to back into parking spots almost anywhere but the grocery since I'm loading the trunk. I've been driving for 45 years, legally for 44 years. This is the first time I've smacked a mirror. If I go another 45 years without breaking a mirror, that will be good enough for me.

I only caught the edge of the garage door weather strip with the outside plastic of the mirror housing. I've been backing this car into the garage for 5 years. The mirror was cracked from a previous owner's incident. I suspect that's why it blew apart instead of folded. When I went to disassemble it for the new cover, several of the screws weren't even tight in the studs, of which every single one broke.

On another note, I got a refund for the poorly matched rattle can paint.

Most ultra low speed accidents happen when reversing...

Still, I prefer to pull out of a spot than start out backing up. Backing up at the end of a drive seems to make more sense to me.

New mirror cover on old mirror guts is back on and everything seem to be working again. It moves, BSD doesn't give an error and the mirror lights up and the puddle light and turn signal works. I'm getting good at pulling the door panel.

Now you need to get good at backing up!
