Unhappy New owner with problem

Hello everyone! I am a proud owner of a 2013 GS350 F sport that I purchased yesterday. Today I noticed a noise that sounded like a cat meowing coming from the steering wheel / column area when turning the wheel. I bought it from an Audi dealership and they said tough since I didn't buy the extended warranty and its a used car there is bound to be issues with it. I am wondering if anyone can help me out with this as it was a fairly large purchase for me but I thought I was buying lexus reliability. I have attached a youtube video of the sound. I live near Los Angeles in The Valley if anyone knows a mechanic that might be able to work with me on a repair. Thank you again everyone!

Congrats and welcome!

Hmmmm now that's a new one for me, power steering pump? lemon law? Don't you have a certain amount of time weather from return to repairs?
Fundamentally the car is fine yes? Check your rights in your state

They are pretty reliable, especially considering all the electronics and features that come on them. I think the GS is actually ranked at the top of the Luxury line segment, in terms of reliability. 2013 was the first year they made this new GS, I usually find a few more issues on new models. But even with that, the GS seems to be a really reliable platform, even for the 2013. When buying used you will usually find one or two bugs like this to iron out, I know I always do.

I had this same problem in my 14 f sport when I purchased it, but not as prominent as yours. The dealership diagnosed a bad clock spring/housing inside the wheel and repaired it.

Is your car still under the Lexus warranty? How many miles on it? this should be covered for the 6 Yr/72k warranty. It's probably the spiral cable.

Is that really the warranty offered on 13s? My 14 only had a 4 year/50k factory warranty.

I think he meant Powertrain Warranty
The Powertrain Warranty is for 72 months or 70,000 miles, whichever occurs first. Except for the situations listed on the Basic Warranty page, this warranty covers repairs needed to fix defects in materials or workmanship of any component listed below:
  • Engine: Cylinder block and head and all internal parts, timing belt and cover, flywheel, oil pan, water pump, fuel pump, engine mounts, engine control computer, seals and gaskets.
  • Transmission and Transaxle: Case and all internal parts, torque converter, clutch cover, mounts, engine control computer, seals and gaskets.
  • Front-Wheel Drive System: Driveshaft, axle, hub, bearings, seals and gaskets.
  • Rear-Wheel Drive System: Differential carrier assembly, driveshaft, axle carrier, axle case, axle bearing, axle shaft and gaskets.
  • Hybrid Vehicle System: Hybrid System Warranty coverage is for eight years or 100,000 miles, whichever occurs first, and covers the following components: Hybrid control module, Hybrid battery and inverter with converter. See your Lexus dealer for complete details on the Hybrid System Warranty.

Yes, that is the one I was referring to. I would think the steering mechanism would be covered under power train. Only way to find out is to get it to the dealer unless it's over 70k.

Default Thanks

So in California they do not have to give you any warranty and lemon law only works if its failed to be fixed 3 times , which could potentially be very costly. If it is covered under the powertrain warranty how much should diagnosis be? Should I just look for an independent mechanic? Can anyone in the Los Angeles area recommend anyone? Thank you again

It has 45k on it and its a 2013 so I will bring it to the dealer but how much will the diagnosis cost me if it is not covered?

This is your best bet. If they won't repair it at least you know. If they won't you can make a decision on what is your best option outside of Lexus. I know others have said that they will charge a diag fee for some items but the dealer I use here in Texas has never told me there would be a fee for checking a repair item. I guess it's different based on the dealer.
