Well, turns out I am a moron. Although I have the instrument panel sub-assembly with the HUD cutout already, if you look at the picture carefully, it looks like the dash piece it mounts on still needs a cutout... I guess I'll just use a heat gun and heat the plastic until it starts to melt and just cut out that piece.

At least you can cut it with the dash removed. Also the cut doesnt have to be perfect since its underneath. You could drill a hole and use a wire saw or use a dremel.

True, I have neither a wire saw or a dremel. Guess I can order one.

Thanks to eddie420 for the template.

Today I cut the nuluxe on the dash for the HUD opening. Very difficult to cut this from the top, like one inch of clearance when you get close to the windshield
I plan on making an opening on the top and using a wire saw, or hack saw from underneath to cut the dash, two layers of plastic to go through.

The dash trim allows me to cut a larger hole to position it perfectly and wide enough to cover up my cut. I plan on using velcro to attach it to the top of the dash

Started cutting my dash today. Two layers of plastic panels. I used a knife to create a opening. Then I used a wire saw(ribbed metal cable) with pliers and pulling underneath to make the cut. It's not easy and I would not trust myself to put a dremel that close to the windshield. Going to to home depot to get some other tool to finish the cut.

so far 3 sides are cut.

Oh boy I have big hands, there is no way I am making cuts like that with that little clearance. Godspeed.

There is a lot of space inside the dash. You have to use pliers on the top near the windshield, like 1.5 inch clearance.

btw were you able to ship that item today?

It wasn't the dremel it was the knife and the wire saw I was using before the dremel. I would end up banging my hand around under there shaving with the knife. The dremel was much easier to control and less labor intensive.
If I were to do it over again I would only use the dremel and wear gloves. I put a wood shingle between the glass and the dash. There are a few cut marks on the shingle so defiantly a must.

The dash is two layers of material, bottom layer is plastic and the top layer is stronger made of some composite.

By top layer, do you mean this piece that I bought separately?

Yes. When you cut into it you see fibers of another material mixed in.

Found out that you have to remove the dash to screw in the HUD mounting brackets. They screw in from the back side and there is no room to screw it in, but the hud fits in so snug without the brackets it doesn't move. I'm going to add some velcro and foam tape to make it fit extra tight tight.
