Default 4th Gen Regretful Mod Thread......

I admire the time, money, and energy that goes to so many mods.
Sometimes we take things too far.
Maybe we make a suspension too harsh?
Bass not so tight?
Wrap takes too long and then don't like? Interior or exterior.
Spent too much and got little in return?
Did an LED mod and nobody noticed?
Did a tune and voided a warranty?
Don't have to be your current car. Perhaps it was that Acura Intengra that you thought would look great with a painted yellow dash?

I had a red reflective sticker logo on my 4GS front emblem for a while.

Then someone told me it looked like a clown nose, and I couldn't unsee it.
Removed it not long after.

By far, my most regrettable mod were the Morimoto fog lights. Wasted about $1K for zero gain in visible light at night. I know fogs don't usually provide much additional light, it is mostly cosmetic. Should have saved that money to do audio mods.

Second regret would be the JoeZ - too much droning. I threaten to remove it many times, but WOT sounds so good changed my mind.

My 'mod' thirst luckily was quenched with a 1999 Miata, and I was punch-drunk on making changes. Full suspension, forced induction, exterior mods, roll bar, audio upgrades, etc. By the time I was tired of making changes I was the only one capable of fixing any problems as I had done ALL the work!

The lesson learned: Mods are an addiction! if you start you will keep finding things to up-grade..... and with a GS the price ain't cheap! I'll keep my '17 Lux just as I found it (except for tint, tires, lowering springs.....

Hey, I have the Morimoto foglights still waiting to install on my 2013 GS. Too hot in Florida to be doing such work. This will be a fall project since there aren't any sports I care to watch on weekends anymore. Not $1k upgrade either. More like $180.

I have them installed too - mainly cosmetic so it matches with the bi-LED headlamps better since the stalk ones are more of of the yellow color (~4300K). For our hybrids, it's simple plug and play.

I think the $1K cost that jdpdata is referring to might be for installing the fogs on a F-Sport (which doesn't come stock with fogs) + switching out the OEM stalk switch on the steering wheel.

Hope this helps,

I did full OEM turn signal stalk swap for professional installation. Not sure how you plan to install yours, are you just hard wiring to the battery. That's a ghetto install I won't do to my car. I also had a pro did my install. You gotta add in the costs bezel and wiring harness too. I know Morimoto don't costs that much. I may have over estimated. Maybe it was closer to $500-750 I spent. Still too much wasted on cosmetic only mod, IMHO.

I regret making a spreadsheet listing all mods and total money spent on mods for my TT Supra back in the day.

Even though my GS is gone, I can say I regretted paying for the VR tune was the biggest waste of $600.

Clean examples are worth real money these days too.

As someone who has no interest in modifying my car, this thread is quite amusing

I regret thinking I would be good at wrapping the complex interior pieces. They look pretty janky but also I don't like the aluminum trim so I'm just gonna leave it.

I also am beginning to regret the Joe-Z Catback but I also love the WOT sounds above 4000rpm.

I regretted the springs and exhaust mods on my old Lex. My current one is straight up stock and I love it.

Less regret and more bad luck. Tinted my windshield with 3M, 4 days later broken windshield. Replace Windshield, retinted. 3 months later, rock to the windshield broke it again.

Haven't retinted a 3rd time. :-)

This is why I'm leaving my GS 100% stock. Well except for the tinted windows and LED turn signals but that's it!

The GS is already perfect as it is for me and nothing more to do.
