maybe lexus corporate can give you the info if you give them the vin or the original selling dealer might have that info. I remember explicitly asking if one of the GSFs I was looking into buying was a performance school car and the selling dealer verified that it was.

not trying to dissuade you from buying the car, but if it was a perf school car you might be able to get them to throw on an extended warranty for extra piece of mind (if this is being bought from Toyota/Lexus). And this could very well not have been a perf school car, and still registered as a Lexus corporate car. It happened with a bunch of GSFs.
Luckily I didn’t see anything about brakes/tires/fluids being replaced before 8k miles (was sold to second owner around 8500 miles. Im going to call up the Lexus dealer listed on the carfax and see if they can give me the information im looking for. Really appreciate the help on this! It’s so difficult to find one of these cars in great condition with perfect history lol.

as a point of reference I’m at 32k miles and just now doing my brakes.

also the brake pad wear replacement recommendation is higher (I.e more meat on pad/less wear) on F cars vs non F.

so some people might’ve prematurely replaced their pads based on dealer recommendation with pads still having plenty of life left.

My bad should’ve been more clear, according to the service records on Lexus driver, the first “corporate” owner only had an oil change and 1 tire replaced. It was then sold to second owner around 8500 miles for personal use. I think based on that, it’s probably safe to assume it wasn’t a Lexus Performance Driving vehicle..

yeah, I think you’re good then too. Glad you got everything checked out. Congrats ! And what’s the color combo for your car?

I might be too paranoid but I’m also having the dealership take the car to a third party shop for inspection. But hey if I’m spending close to 60k I want to make sure there’s no surprises since I’m buying it sight unseen. It’s Atomic Silver with red interior, fingers crossed everything works out!

Apologies in advance if this is not the right thread to post this but, I've been loosely watching GS F prices for years and I've finally decided to get serious about buying one. Mid to high $40s for a relatively high mileage car (around 70K miles +) seems like the reality these days and this is pretty much all I've been seeing out there. I've resigned myself to accepting it but thought I'd see what others in here think before I make any premature decisions.

Do you all think prices will ever go down at all or do we think that train left the station for good? Feels like the number of GS Fs for sale just keeps shrinking and the prices keep going up which makes sense for such a low volume model. I think we will start seeing super high mileage, beat up examples dip into the $30K range some day, but I get the feeling that won't happen for a while...

Is it crazy to consider paying near $50K for a 7 year old car with 70K miles on it? Would love for those with more knowledge to talk me out of it I'm patient so I don't mind waiting but, that was my mistake the first time around. I should have bought one years ago but I thought I'd score one near or right below $40 and well, that never happened.

I know there's no crystal ball but, would love to hear arguments for waiting further vs just biting the bullet. I was close to buying a 2016 with low miles for $58 a few months ago but, I thought it was priced a bit too high for my liking and now I'm second guessing that decision too.

Thanks!

I feel that prices will continue to come down on the used car market as a whole over the next 6 months and for sure by the end of the year. Is the GSF a little different based on the fact that it's a rare car? I think so. I also think the fact that ISF's were holding such strong resale values for so long is a good indicator that GSF prices will stay high as well.

BUT, dealers don't care about the rarity or the way prior ISF's held value, they want to know their cost in the car is and to make "x" percentage. So if they give someone KBB trade in value of $42,000 (according to kbb on my 2016 with 48k miles) and I don't know much different and just want to get into something else, then you're going to find a good deal where it makes better sense.

I think that the value of our cars is going to go down here for the next year or so but then I think you'll find more people paying more for them based on the factors above. So either way, if you buy now or in the next 9 months, I feel that in a few years you'll be in a good position.

Good luck on your search!

Thanks for your perspective @MRonan83 !

What you wrote makes sense to me and my hope is that clean examples that are not ridiculously marked up slowly trickles into the marketplace.

I've been thinking about geting into a F car ever since the IS F came out so I've literally been waiting for 15 years at this point. Now it's just a matter of waiting for the right one to pop up in my neck of the woods

I've got alerts set up across several websites so the hunt is on!

I traded in my 2017 with 22K miles and got $48,500. I received 7% on top of the $48,500 in sales tax credits as w so my trade in value total was around $52K. The dealer sold it for $61,000 a few weeks later. I noticed the prices for GSFs are creeping up.

Thanks for that data point Steve.

I've noticed prices creeping up as well. Keeping my fingers crossed that I can find one in good condition for under 50 at this point as that seems to be the most realistic scenario...

Do you miss your GS F?

I feel like I could have written the same post as you, @PBarnes . I too have had the GS F on my watch list for several years now, hoping for higher mileage 2016 examples to work their way into the high 30s/low 40s, with low-mile examples being maybe a $10-15k premium over that depending on the example, and have watched the listing prices head the other direction. I've gotta remind myself that I wasn't ready to buy then and I'm still not necessary ready to buy now either, so it's all sort of moot, but I can't help but be frustrated. Of course, pretty much everything else has ballooned in price over that period too.

I've got the same question. I suspect the relative rarity and lack of cars hitting the market is what's going to keep values relatively high, but also fear I'm deluding myself into overpaying with that logic. We only seem to get a handful of used GS Fs hitting the used market each month, and there's probably at least a few dozen of us out there, constantly refreshing pages or checking their alerts, ready to pounce. So a simple supply and demand problem. That said, I do feel like a recession and/or high gas prices could take some of the air out of the GS F market, and I am hopeful for a general easing in the used car market, like @MRonan83 alluded to.

I suspect that in my case, I'll find a deal I can stomach on one of the other vehicles on my list before the right GS F deal comes along for me, but I keep checking.

I really appreciate this thread and owners' willingness to share the details of their transaction. It's very illuminating.

Tremendously. My issue is that I have a MKiV Supra that is 30 years old now and ran great until a few years ago. Now I’m battling issues. My goal is to get it running again…or sell it.

When I had the GSF I was driving it all the time and never working on the Supra. If I sell the Supra, I may get another one….or an RCF Track or Fuji, or an LC500. I’m at the point now where I just want something fun and reliable.

@entr0pic Yup, this is the internal debate I have with myself all the time. I come up with arguments for prices going up and I counter all of those with argumentts for prices going down. I went back and forth for years like this and ended up just sitting on the sidelines while the world moved on. Eventually I just need to jump in the pool but, I can't overstate how pissed I would be if prices crater right after I buy at the peak.

Ultimately though, all that matters is that I'm happy with the price I paid and I just need to get over things and move on. As it stands today, I have a number that I'm comfortable with and it's just a matter of finding a car that is within the ballpark of this figure. I can't worry about what the market will do months and years from now.

Would love to hear your pros/cons for those vehicles you listed as I am in the same boat.

RCF to me looks more aggressive and fun but, I do want 4 doors...
LC500 seems more luxurious than the GS F but, again I want 4 doors and I want more of an edge/thrill of the driving experience that the GS F probably can deliver over the LC? Hard for me to say because I've never driven the LC500.

When I drove the GS F it felt very civilized when driven normally but, I liked that it had some ***** when you decided it was time to get more serious. The LC500 seems like more of a refined cruiser but, again I've never taken one for a spin so I may be way off base here.
