Question 1000 Mile Maintenance on GS F?

Hello all, I tried to do a search to no avail. Does anyone know what they do at this first of two free maintenance appointments? I am assuming oil and filter change, but does anyone have a list? Anything to look out for? Thanks for any insights. Mike

The manual states first service at 1k miles and second at 5k miles. HOWEVER, for whatever reason, Lexus themselves says first two free service at 5k miles and 10k miles.

I skipped the 1k miles and did service at 5k and 10k miles both free, had the 10k service done last week with my recall. That is an option. They don't do anything at 1k miles...

Even the lexus website says 5k and 10k... http://www.lexus.com/maintenance

1K mile is just for LPS setting. They gave you some time to get familiar with the car and see if you want to change any setting(interior lights, door chime, etc).
Most people don't even know about this and some people, like myself, have a ODB reader and change the setting ourselves.

Thanks all. NickL, LPS settings??? sorry, been a long day at work and just cannot figure that one out. Thanks

So there is no oil change at 1000 miles? I know there are divergent opinions on this ---- that they add certain detergents, etc. and you should leave it in for 5000 miles initially versus need to change oil and filter at or around the 1000 mile mark. I have always been in the latter camp and ask the group: is there any downside to changing the oil and filter at 1000 miles?

Thanks again for the guidance. I want this car to last as long as possible and just do not want to do anything approaching a mis-step or neglect if I can help it. Peace, Mike

In the GSF manual it states:

-Inspect body/chassis
-Check for fluid leaks
-Inspect wiper blades
-Check installation of driver's floor mat
-Road test vehicle
- Program LPS if requested

No oil change. The first service is basically useless. First oil change at 5k miles.

I was told by Lexus guys (EU) to make an oil and filter change at ~600 miles (1000 km) with a specified oil (MOTUL 300V HIGH RPM 0W20) and to make the same changes every 6000 miles (10.000 km) for the "ever lasting" engine. We get no free services just if it falls under warranty

That doesn't seem right.. Shouldn't the oil be 5w30??

Everyone, regardless of country, should follow what the manual states. It is the best resource.

1st checkup was 30 days post purchase - they just did an inspection of everything with no fluid changes. Free
2nd maintenance @ 5k / 6 months: was supposed to be an oil change but i was only at 3k miles, so they did another inspection of everything with no fluid changes. Free.
3rd maintenance @ 10k / 1 year: at this time, i finally hit 5800 miles and they did the oil change. I brought my own 5w-30 Synthetic oil, so it cost me $60 in oil, but free everything else.
I have two more maintenance cycles for free. 2 years, but that may have been a dealer thing and not a Lexus thing.

Those requirements are unique to your dealership. US models all say 5w-30 oil, but they do not specify any particular oil. Dealerships have local oil purchase contracts, so you really have no idea what they're putting in your vehicle here. Many dealerships have converted to 0w-20 oils and put them in everything regardless of what the manual says, but Lexus is very specific about the 5w-30 requirement for 2UR engines here in the US. The filter Lexus specifies for the F models is also unique, and although other filters made for other platforms (like the Tundra) will fit, they are not Lexus recommended. There are some pretty long threads about all this in the IS F forum.

Oil is like religion. Everyone has something they believe is best for them. If you follow your dealer's recommendations and have your car regularly serviced by the dealer, if you have oil related problems they will have to help you because they've been paid to maintain your car. I don't do this myself, but I can fully understand why someone would do this for peace of mind.
