I’ve had my GSF for about a month and noticed that the rear brakes are running a little low. Just wondering what brake pad would be a nice replacement.

In similar situation. Does anyone know if the rotors need to be changed as well while changing pads or can they be machined/turned? Do not want the shimmies after 1000 or so miles

 

You aren't going to get much advice around here that advises to have your rotors machined; most agree that it isn't a good idea. I would expect a set of rotors to last about two sets of pads, then replace.

 

As stated resurfacing rotors is not a good idea. Do a search and you'll see why. As far as replacement, it's best to measure them. There is a factory spec for minimum thickness.

I just purchased Toms performer pads. Will keep you updated how they feel when I get them installed.

 

Believe it or not, our local Toyota/Lexus authorized dealer machined my rotors before replacing my pads.
I asked them if this was a good idea and they said no problem, Lexus Japan have a technical bulletin for that.

Keep in mind that our authorized dealer has been around for over 65 years and houses the Middle East Toyota Training HQ.

 

Anyone else have a squeaking problem with their gsf brakes? The tech said my pads were good. Kind of embarrassing stopping at a red light and it always squeaks.

I can speak on Lexus Brakes. Listen...I've owned 3 lexus vehicles in my life. A 2013 GS 350 AWD,currently a 2016 Lexus GSF, and my wife has a 2019 RX350. Both my 13 GS 350 and 16 GS F cars had sqeaky brakes and brake dust issues. This was after putting on a new set of stock rotors and brakes on both cars.

I switched my 13 GS 350 to slotted and drilled rotors and brake set sold on amazonfor $265 and I never heard a sqeak or had brake dust issues again.

With that said, I'm confident that "Toms" makes a brake pad that will solve both brake issues with the GS F and it will be light years cheaper than brembo brake pads.

Keep I mind that the brake fluid needs to be flushed every 30k miles.

I have recently replaced my brake pads with the Project mu pads.
I am pretty impressed actually, what value for money.

Observations:

1. The brake pads give off almost no dust and do not squeal at all.
2. The bite on these pads are not as sharp as OEM, but then again, I didn't expect them to be as they are harder and longer life than OEM.
3. Having said that, I feel they are also designed for spirited driving or track use, beause as soon as I get on it a few times.. the pads bite like crazy. I am guessing with temperature, their performance improves.

Based on these observations, these pads are perfect for my use.
