I’m in Western Australia.
Both temperature gauges run at 50% (in the middle).
i haven’t had the car for a summer yet but I’ll be interested to see what it runs at when we have a 40 degrees Celsius day

Me too. When engine is warm and normal oil is at 50%. As for water temps it is usually a little bit less. In summer, as you know designo, in Riyadh it gets upward of 120-130 degs. Anyways, I'll check tomorrow when heading to work or on the way back from work.

In warmer weather both are centered.
Water temp needle hits the center at 172F and stays there at least up to 190F or more.
Oil temp needle hits the center at 174F and stays there at least to 183F or more.
In the cooler months (~0F-50F) here the water will be centered and the oil will be a tick or two to the left of center depending on type of driving, etc.

I’m in North Florida. Both remain in the middle when fully warmed.

I really don't look at that gauge. I have an OBD Wireless reader and one of the gauges I show on my phone is water temperature. I do this:

Hey designo, mine is exactly the same as yours, and this is driving in stop and go city traffic.

That would not make sense in my personal opinion.
If the thermostat remained open all the time, there would not be enough time for the coolant to cool down in the radiator. Hence, I would assume engine would run even hotter, especially in traffic.
I am almost certain our engines run richer Air/Fuel ratios.
My 2009 GS460 on the dyno showed A/F ratios of 10:1 consistently and power output was rated at 322hp compared to US model which were rated at 342hp.
Just my 0.02
