Default Published top speed for the GS F

Is it me or is the media generally biased when it comes to evaluating the GS F's true performance?

It seems like magazine and video reviewers simply accepted Lexus' published top speed figure for the GS F (168mph) and never bothered to see if this is the car's actual top speed.

As someone who used to own an E60 M5, which could be derestricted to 205mph, I have a hard time believing that the GS F only tops out at 168mph. Despite having slightly lower HP, the F has one extra gear more than the M5's SMG and weighs about the same as the M5.

I put my doubts aside until I saw this video:

The driver has obviously taken the GS F up to 285km/h in sixth gear before he slowed down. That's 177mph! Had he kept going I wouldn't be surprised to see the F break 190mph.

What are your thoughts on this? Is Lexus being too conservative in the GS F's performance figures?

I took the isf to 170 and felt like it can still go, this was in ”mexico” but yeah I have to agree Gsf should easily hit 190.

Lexus says 270 kph with an asterisk - Toyota in house measured performance. It's not limited like some of the other models. The IS350 is unquestionably limited. AMHIK. I've never taken my IS F or GS F over 140 mph. The aero on these cars isn't very good at high speed.

He also shifts ahead of redline into 7th (I'm not sure why). Remember this speedo may also be off a few %.--It is clear that the car isn't limited to 168mph (like some places report) as it would have a fuel cutoff at the supposed correct speed if that was the case. His later videos, he often has a GPS unit in sight, verifying the speedo.

I've seen a video where one reached 311 KMH, which is around 193 MPH.

You can go to ModInJapan and buy the top speed limiter bypass for the GSF for $1500. It brings top speed to 186mph.

Not yet. TOMS has a limiter cut as well but it’s $2200. I would probably get that one. However, it would be when the car is paid off and I’ve already done wheels/springs/exhaust. I could never find a place to do 167mph let alone 185+mph.

Indicated or GPS/other method measured? Speedometers are notorious for overstating your speed to prevent you from getting a citation.

As desolate as the roads are around here, it almost tempts me to test this myself. Nah. Just got my insurance renewal and it's another 5% from those bastards reporting record earnings and not sharing with me.

Have had mine around 160 indicated, a bit above where 5th tops out. Can't imagine finding enough space to top out 6th as in the video above considering how long that took
