Has anyone else encountered any challenges getting their RR Racing Intake Heat Shield installed? I moved the horn and solenoid out of the way and into the same position as everyone else without issue, but now i can't get the shield itself to seat. The part towards the headlight won't actually fit under the airbox flap, and forcing it doesn't help (the videos i've seen make it seem like a gentle push and it lays down perfectly).

I sent over multiple pictures and video to show the car is stock and everything is in the right place, but they haven't been able to figure it out yet either and are waiting on a customer with one to come in to take a look at that. Has anyone else encountered any issues getting their heat shield to fit right?

You need to cut the plastic surround at the fender side.

That's the problem, I don't believe I've missed any steps. I cut off more than enough of the fender plastic after moving the horn and solenoid. The top of it seats perfectly, and the top left corner goes in where I cut that plastic off without issue. It's the front part towards the headlight which doesn't fit over the secondary intake.




Pressing down lightly, that bottom part wont go down.

 

Can you see what it's hitting against that is preventing it from lowering in place?

I tried getting a flashlight parallel to see but no luck there. You can see in photos 1 & 2 where I'm actually starting to wear away the edge of the intake box. That wear and tear is from the lip of the shield scraping against the plastic instead of (what I THINK is supposed to happen) fitting over it. Any time i press down the portion of the shield at let's say 7:00 just rubs across that, and I feel like it's supposed to clip "over" it instead. I sent multiple pictures and a video in, and supposedly the shield looks the way it should, but I'm positive that the car is stock and that I did all of the steps by the book (read the instructions, watched both above videos multiple times, etc.). My best guess was that the shield may have been molded differently or had some defect but I'm told that doesn't seem to be the case.

 

I'm replacing my filter today, I will take some pics of mine.

Looks like you got the RR heat shield that I returned for the same reason. They made me pay for return shipping as well. Never again.

 

Hi Everyone, although the heat shield was designed originally for the RCF, we have not had any issues installing on GSFs locally. We currently have 2 GSF in the shop, but they are supercharged so that doesn’t help, but the moment we get another GSF in we will have another look at this. It’s hard to believe the intake box design changed. Certainly nothing changed with the mold. Hopefully a GSF stops by soon and I will update.

I'll get some pictures of mine this afternoon. It is a nice piece. Not sure if 2020s are different than 2017s, but a few pictures should settle that.

I have the RR Racing heat shield installed on my 2020 and have had zero issues with it. As others have pointed out, make sure you remove enough of the plastic trim to allow for proper clearance of the heat shield.

 

I can try to trim off some more, it just seems like it's comparable to yours. mine is basically cut off a little bit above the level of the strut towers. As a side note, very clean engine bay, looking beautiful!

 

2020 here and mine fits with a little wiggling. I doubt its an issue with the car, probably a supply issue with RR.


....Or maybe there are sight differences in the GSF per year?? Highly doubt it though!
